I guess I understand the desire to a loved one wake again but I do not understand the actions of the infants parents. Seems to me we will treat our animals far better than we treat our fellow man.

I would never want to see a family member suffer.

Suffering in life to get the "BIG PICTURE" is sometimes necessary. ;)

Then you had better start lobbying for a change in the laws. You cannot deliberately take a person out no matter how dire their circumstances.

Doctors can bend the law by using a bit too much morphine at times, but their license is in jeopardy.

There does exist a "DNR" which allows a doctor to avoid any treatment to prevent death, but, if the patient will continue to exist on their own............nothing legally can be done about it.

Right.

Saw my mother suffer and we knew it was time to let her go and be at peace. If you want to let someone you love suffer and they are cool with that, knock your self out. I sure as hell know I have no interest in suffering and I have no interest in putting my family through it.

Most people, when asked a similar question, will all respond identical to the above.

However, when push comes to shove, they cannot make the decision to pull the plug (if allowed) and they certainly wouldn't back legislation for others to do so.

When it's my time to go, I want NO medical attention.

I never looked into it but we probably held on to my mother longer than we should have. I think mainly for my dad to come to grips with it. Being married for 58 years tends to make it hard to say good bye. She was on dialysis for a week or two with minimal results that were only delaying the inevitable. So we sat dad down and basically told him it was OK to say good bye. He agreed and we put her in a hospice and let her go. Hardest thing I have ever had to do but none of us wanted t see her suffer like that any more.

I cannot understand how someone can sit idly by and let a loved one suffer or waste away. I would have thought the results would be opposite. Te folks who are not in the situation would be against it on moral grounds and the folks who are or were in the situation would be the ones for it.

Go figure.

How do you know when its your time to go?

When you don't want no medication.
It requires a lot of love to let a loved one go.

For his sake I hope he does not get any number of cancers or other debilitating ailment that eats away at ones body. I seem to recall hearing of a few that eat away and muscle and nerves but leave the brain intact. Nothing like being a prisoner in ones own body.

When his liver can no longer process the beer....

Personally, I think I would just check out long before getting to that point. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to deal with the consequences of helping me.

My theory is that there is an issue of guilt involved. Wife has seen many people in the nursing homes that have been neglected by relatives UNTIL the day they are starting to die. AT that time and not before, suddenly, all the relatives come out of the woodwork. IMO, at that point they suddenly want to do everything the can to assuage their guilt of neglect. That might factor into why they want the relatives to be kept alive as long as possible. So they can make amends.
