Terrible Accident, Mercedes May Have Made the Difference

In northern California. News reports indicate that the Mercedes was driving erratically and went through a red light where it was broadsided by a Dodge Durango.

The Mercedes was driven by an adult female driver with three children between seven and eight years of age as passengers. The Durango was occupied by only a female adult driver. All five parties involved were transported to area hospitals with moderate to serious injuries. At least one of the children's injuries was considered life threatening.

Update: As of 10:00 a.m. on 1/28/2010 the driver of the Mercedes and one of her three children were listed in serious condition. Two children from the Mercedes and the driver of the Durango were treated and released.

WOW that''s a bad accident...but I don't think it's as bad as t hese pictures make it seem. I don't think that is how the car looked after the accident. It looks like the jaws of life were taken to it before it was moved to it's current location.

I think a power higher than Mercedes made a difference.

Looks like the jaws of life were taken to it. I wonder what it looked like after the accident.

Lets be honest here, our cars were maybe top notch in safety when they were new; but by to-days standards...

I would venture to say that had they all been in the equivalent year Toyota they would all probably be dead.

running red lights will get you killed. it seems as though red light running
has become a national pastime. in most instances, "in cabin distractions" or simply "living in a fog" are most to blame for the red light running. if possible, always always check both directions before entering an intersection. because some cell phone yakking or texting moron with their foot to the floor will be coming at you from the right or the left. scary.

I hope my TD never looks like that. If they all survive, they are lucky. A fair number of MB parts are exclusive to the TD. Anyone know what junkyard that thing went to?

Note the MB windshield wiper blade assys. held-up perfectly.

The Durango (whatever that is?) had to be travelling at a very high impact speed to do that to the MB.
