I love the sound of that straight 6.

Droooool. That engine sounds incredible. Thankfully my M103 sounds good enough to fill the gap till I can acquire a sport-oriented MB.

Yesterday I figured out that I wasn't pressing the pedal in my 300E all the way down when accelerating hard.....I went the remaining 20% of the way and WOW. It was flying!

170HP pushing around 3500ish pounds is pretty slow. Then again the M103's love the high RPMs so you get a rush of acceleration at the top end which is fun. The ones I've driven have an odd high pitched gear-whine kind of sound though.

That 300SL is a helluva car. I dont think it showed Leno trying to get out did it? Pretty high door sill

Clark Gable's former Gullwing resides in the OKC area. I saw it at a MB & Jag car show at the dealers on Broadway. Very nice shape, has the red leather fitted luggage and current plates. Doubt if it gets driven much, but is was so cool to see a rolling bit of unobtanium out in the light.

Every motoring enthusianst should own a sporty SL in their lifetime.

Wonderful machine in any iteration. Mercedes does them so well.

Like Mr. Leno mentioned, none of typical sport car compromises that mess up day to day enjoyment.

I was unable to hear his commentary because I lack sound here. He writes in Octane magazine about that car. It is a great column.

The gullwing and the 289 cobra remain my two top favorites of all time. Sadly I will never own anything but the 1/24 scale version!

Amazing the Gullwing still looks so fresh over half a century later, there are very few cars ever produced as timeless as this.

I didn't know Jay worked for a benz dealer back in the day. The story of the $5000 Gullwing is pretty funny.

Here's the closest I've gotten to a Leno car. Yes that guy with the goofy open mouth is me. BLASTOLENE!

WTF is that thing?

Looks like a highly modified Watson Indy roadster from the fifties/sixties.

Another astonishing answer to the question that nobody (or nearly nobody) asked!
