Buying Eyeglasses on the Internet?

Has anybody here bought perscription eyeglasses on the Internet? If so, where? How did it work out?

No problems with the lenses. A bit of advice though, spend the few extra bucks and get the higher price frames as the less expensive ones are not so good. You'll still save big bucks overall.

I've purchased glasses from here with no problem. I went to an eyeglass store in the mall and looked at frames. When I found what I liked and fit, I wrote down all the pertinent info and ordered them online for 1/3 the price.

I wouldn't buy glasses online if I didn't see them in person first to make sure they fit and I liked them.

Well, I've bobught several pairs of glasses on the Internet since I started this thread. I've have varying results. They are definitely cheaper, but I thin the quality has not been that great. I just got a pair of perscription sunglasses from www.greateyeglassesdirect.com. They're okay, but could be better.

I am now planning to go to a local, full price optician for my next pair. Probably, if you just wear regular glasses for nearsightedness, the internet places would be okay. Once you need a lot of special features, it can get tricky.

My wife got a pair of sunglasses from Zenni Optical http://www.zennioptical.com, and with a bunch of add-ons like scratch guarding and even with shipping it came to less than $30. The worked well, but the frame broke at the hinge after a few months. Kids ripping them off didn't help, but still, you get what you pay for.
I'll probably get some soon since I trash my lenses pretty quick. They seem to be incapable of making a safety lens that is also hard to scratch, and there isn't much that's more abrasive than metal dust.

We bought progressive bifocals lens glasses at Zennioptical.com with stainless steel frames. It's been years now and couldn't be happier. 2 pair for $79. shipped at the time. Everyone who we refer zenni to; couldn't be happier. But you must have your prescription and your P.D. (pupil distance) in millimeters. Have some one measure this for you; center of pupil to center of pupil. You will probably have to adjust the frames and nose pieces for comfort, yourself.

Tip: all lenses come with UV protection inside.

I prefer to buy things like glasses locally. My optician does a good job and provides good service, I don't have a reason to go elsewhere.

It seems like the ones I got from Zenni did not have a large enough area for reading. They ended up being just enough to make me dizzy if i suddenly looked down, but not big enough to read with very well.

As I said, I think I would have done better if i had only needed single vision lenses. I'm glad yours worked out well for you, though. I like having somebody local to deal with. Then, if there's a problem, I can get it taken care of more easily.

What about adjusting the frames to fit your face?
