Little bit of comedy for you aka my job
I love working for a corporation. I really do.
After a few months of 5 or 15 hour weeks I finally start getting 25-30 again.. woo a decent pay check right. I can put money back into savings for school and etc. Well this week I was given ZERO hours.. how the hell can they do that? I have no idea. Its really comical since 1 out of the 3 of us in seafood is out for 6 weeks because of a broken foot. So there be 40 hours that can be dispersed to me and excess given away to other departments. But noooooooo my store manager just took all 40 and left me nothing, the meat manager(looks over seafood too) had nothing to do with it, he always trys to get me hours since I work hard and do more than whats expect of me) She did say that she would give me a shift on thursday night 7pm to 3am to strip and wax and seal the floors... HELLOOOOOO I have told you countless times I go to school MWF at 7am. I took this as a slap in the face and just walked away before I said something that would really screw me over. So, hows that.. I get zero hours at my job, they wont give me any hours in other departments or other stores I know have either shifts when I am at school or nothing at all. I need a new job but no one is hiring in my area. Thanks Obama! |
I feel your pain. I had a job I hated for many months and couldn't find another one. After telling the boss I didn't care if I got fired (and meaning it)*, they still took about four more months to can me.
*I know this is a really bad thing to do, but I really didn't care at that point. I was unwilling to quit before finding another job, but I REALLY hated that job. |
When they finally realize they need someone to fill the schedule all of a sudden, they'll be "asking"(really telling you) to work. In principle you should tell them to take a hike because you've made other commitments to fill the void that they created.
Accommodate them a 100 times with a smile and your a hero for the day. Deny them once and suddenly your being uncooperative. There comes a time when you must stand on principle, but be prepared for the back stabbing, kiss ass indulgences of incompetent management. |

How about being a free lance employee of a couple three pizza or chinese take-out restaurants? Work when you have the time to help out when they need you.
|
Did you check Universal?
|
Take a dump in the manager's office.

Being hourly and having some jerk screw around with your hours plain sucks.
There's a lesson in there somewhere. You have the power to change that. |
yeah I know. I have applied to best buy many times since there is one a mile from my house and when ever I go in there they have hired new people that can't tell me the difference anything about any product. They just read the label. Actually its anywhere I apply lately. Apparently I know too much and would cost too much

You're a big Harry Potter fan right? Why not check into the theme park they're putting in there at USO?

problem is you are working too hard, they know you are smarter, its all they will ever have, they now see you as a threat in their twisted little world

yeah, Im applying to both theme parks anyways.. I'd be more inclined to work for disney( both places are going to have their crappy parts anywho and I prefer disney over Universal for the most part)
however, my job did give me 20 hours for next week. woo but its sat-monday... and saturday I was supposed to be volunteering but nope I am working. w/e I need the money and volunteering doesnt pay and monday I was supposed to go on a private behind the scenes tour of KSC with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.. buuuutttt im not going on that either. w/e its money. but ive always miss out on rare things like this because of my ****ing job all the time.. |
TheDon I have asked before but don't remember your answer... is there a reason you are not doing freelance CAD work?
That way you would earn more, the hours would be flexible, your market would not be limited to Florida's bad economy, you would grow your existing skills, and be setting yourself up with prospective employers. |

That makes sense but I don't agree with you giving up that easily. You have got to stop letting people tell you no. Knock down doors at builders, architects, designers and sell yourself into a job. Tell them you'll work free for a week and then discuss future arrangements.
Come on... anyone who can, without even trying, get a couple to give them a Mercedes convertible clearly is an amazing person with excellent potential for a successful and happy life. Stop letting people in your life and surroundings tell you no and stop playing by their rules designed to keep you down. |
I think its time for a new job. It is unconsciable that they make you wax the floor naked!;)
Seriously there have been a lot of good ideas floated here but with the economy like it is just hold on to any job you have until you have something better lined up. You have a wonderful mind and a great attitude so try to keep positive and good things will happen again. (I am still shaking my head over that cabrio deal!) |
