I could have told you it wasn't a smart car... Smarts have 3 lugs and 3 lugs only... There is a very small number of cars out there with a 3 lug wheel.

Rule number one; dont get in-between 2 trucks!!
air bags and traction control are no match for tons of high tensile steel chassis!
Not only wasnt it a smart car, it wasnt a smart driver either !!

Completely true. If i'm on the highway and i'm not passing a truck....it's gridlock traffic. Under no circumstances will I drive anywhere near them. I drive in front of them at all times incase the worst happens (And they includes one of their tires blowing out)

Although that brings up another word of caution. A couple of years ago there was a horrific crash where a truck lost brakes and crashed into a packed intersection at the bottom of a mountain road. Any time i'm sitting at a light I always check to see what's coming up behind me, just in case. (Defensive driving lesson number 1, always try to leave yourself with an escape path)

"In July 2005, the driver of a truck lost control of his brakes and swerved to avoid traffic waiting in his lane at the stoplight. On the eastbound side of the road, the truck then collided with rush hour traffic waiting at the light. Four people, including the driver of the truck, perished in the crash.

In 2007, the driver of a truck lost control. The truck, traveling westbound on U.S. Route 44 at Route 10, crashed into the Nassau Furniture building at about 11 a.m., taking out a column that supports the roof of the building. Amazingly, no major injuries resulted from the crash."

Truth is...Regardless of what make of car it is/was...

I'm sure we could make a long list of cars that would have met the same fate in that situation. Including a few MBs.

I don't think that's a situation to use as an "economy car vs. non-economy car" ad.

There are a certain number (growing smaller each day) of drivers who assume everyone will stop automatically for them, or even can! They judge badly, or not at all, because they are driving whole talking on their cell phone.

Like gazelles who live near a large number of lions, their numbers grow smaller each day.
