An Email I thought I'd Share
Got this from the precinct captain (R) for my precinct:
You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California. Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted. Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table". Ready? Now pay attention... Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1,000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00. Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00. Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00. Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00. Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00. Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00. Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00. Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc. Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month. Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work. Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family. Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home. Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay. Do you get it, now?

I read the whole thing, and didn't get to the part where Joe Legal hires Joe Illegal and his pals to finish the job he contracted way under budget so that his profit margin was higher . . .
Or how Joe Illegal manages to avoid paying sales taxes, gasoline taxes . . Last edited by MTI; 02-18-2010 at 05:49 PM. |

Joe Legal needs to let someone else do his taxes. 30% for a married guy with 2 kids just is not remotely accurate
If Jose has no social security number, how is he getting federal aid and subsidies? Is that not a prerequisite for those programs? If not, then the next thing I type will be a letter to my congressman.

or Joe Legal paying Jose Illegal $5.00 an hour for yard work so Joe Legal can spend more time with family, or with the lazy boy and the big screen.

You ever get drive up to a corner where Jose is standing and offer $15/hr? I bet you could get a software engineer for $15/hr.

And the moral of the story is???? I've never gotten those kinds of arguments. I applaud Jose for not 'paying' taxes. An inspiration for us all. As if surrendering 30% of one's earnings (minimum) is a respected virtue or duty.

As usual the guy who pays taxes gets screwed and the bums get to live off the system.
Thanks to the currant tax bracket that represents what half the country now that gets a free ride. I'm a firm beleiver in the flat income tax, 10% accross the board.

Actually I'd like to see the income tax abolished and replaced with a national sales tax. This would encourage saving and investment, since any money you invest would be pre-tax income. It would also hit all the income tax dodgers (legal and otherwise). I've heard the arguments to the contrary, and while I remain unmoved, I don't see a national sales tax in lieu of income tax happening any time soon.

How can we make this story bi-partisan? One party wants more Joe illegals, and the other wants more Joe legals. Give Joe illegal half the benefits he already gets for free and tax Joe legal only half as much as needed to pay for Joe illegal will still get us further in debt, so that's out. HHHMMMM. I guess we need magic

Yeah lets all not pay taxes! Then the big guys can beat up the small guys cause there'd be no police to stop us. Is there a place where people actually get away with not paying taxes??? Yep, folks, that'd be Somalia. Check it out Austin- head over there for a 30 year trial run for us and give us reports from time to time about how great it is.
