Remove Her, She Will Not Pledge!

13 Year Old Girl Escorted Out of Classroom For Not Reciting Pledge

The incident began on a Wednesday in late January, when the girl did not stand for the pledge. Her teacher yelled at her, demanded that she stand and then sent her to the office for her defiance, Quereshi said. The school system confirmed the sequence of events.

The next morning, the girl again refused to stand for the pledge. This time, the teacher called two school police officers to the classroom to escort the girl to the office.

Vell, mein fraulein. . . ve have vays of making you pledge . . .

Sounds to me like the teacher is the one needing to be escorted from the room (building).

It probably wouldn’t cause any issue at all with the rest of the class if she just let the girl sit quietly.

It’s when you make a big scene out of it in front of her friends that you’re causing a problem.

I never recited the pledge. I started in 7th grade and kept doing it up until I graduated high school.

I think the comment that bugged her the most was when I said I don't need to recite some pointless statement to affirm my feelings about some strip of land. That was a fun walk down to the principal's office

I'm surprised they still do that at schools. When I was in high school in the early 70s we all completely ignored the pledge in the morning, just more background noise. It seems like a very silly tradition.

A teacher-friend of mine only requires a respectful silence while the class recites the pledge.

That's reasonable, as long as they don't force anyone to join in.

Would seem to me that even with the current makeup of SCOTUS, a good freedom of speech case could be made and won. Any teacher or school system that fights this battle against a kid is just foolish.

Perhaps when there really is liberty and justice for all I would consider saying it. Tell then, I think the teacher needs to take a civics class and really pay attention this time.

OH yea, they need to go back to the original version. I will not take a pledge to anyone's god... ever.
