Your favorite concert

Post about your favorite concert you've ever gone to. The older the better. If anyone managed to be in NY around mid August '69 I'm infinitely jealouse.

I went to see KISS on their 35th tour last year. Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer sounded great. Paul and Gene were fantastic. It was a great show.

ZZ Top, Eliminator tour in 1982? Sammy Hagar was the opening act. I was in downtown Cincinnati with a couple of friends, goofing off, and saw tour busses parked near the Riverfront Coliseum. We walked up to the outer concourse, and banged on some doors. An usher opened a door, and let the 4 of us in for $10 total...we sat 10 rows up from the stage off to the left side. One of the few concerts I have ever attended...had a great time!

Grateful Dead, Shoreline, 1990. Not because the Dead were that great, but because of the people I was with.

I'm pretty sure I saw KISS live in the mid/late-70s, but I can't be certain.

That means you're telling the truth. Anyone who claims they were at a KISS concert when they were in their prime and says "I remember everything" is lying. They still put on a hell of a good show. I don't remember most of it because my mom and I ate our Joints before we went through the door. The first hour or so was a blur.

couple of good ones in the mid 70's

There were great concerts thrown in the Buffalo Bills stadium because they would never stop selling tickets. Some were 100K or better since the field and seats were filled. This would attract a lot of big names that wouldn't come to the inside arenas there. My favorite concert there was a front band, then 2 hours of Santana, then 4 hours of Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young on a pretty 80* summer afternoon. I can still visualize the pretty lady swaying to Santana song in a sun dress they had on the jumbo-tron....

The other rock concert was at the Syracuse St. Fair grounds around Sept. '75. Missed the first band, then New Riders of the Purple Sage, the first tour of Jefferson Starship, America, Doobie Brothers, then the Beach Boys. The major issue is it went from a pretty 70* afternoon, to rain and 40* by the time the Beach Boys finished.

On the other end of the spectrum, I'm an old trumpet player/ big band fan. One of the top horn players (Maynard Ferguson) from the 40's-60's made a comeback in the 70's with a rock / fuzion jazz band. I saw him and a 18 piece band in a 1000 person night club. They did their signature finale of repeating a 16 bar theme for the big song of the tour - Macarthur Park this time, Hey Jude was another tour. The entire sax, trombone, trumpet sections would walk out in the crowd and play call and answer with Ferguson on stage. It was way cool to hear the first horn screaming above high C right behind your seat.

Great music is really inspiring.

Chuck

I have been to lots of concerts - four stand out

in 2005 the Go-Go's did a show in NYC to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Beauty and the Beat" we were 10 feet away from Charlotte and Belinda and those girls rocked. Char tossed me a guitar pick which I still have.

I saw the new edition of Jefferson Starship Galactica or whatever Paul is calling it at BB Kings in NYC. We were sitting against the stage and THEY were awesome. Paul was smoking and drinking Stoli while playing! one of the last hard living Rock and Rollers!

Two Hot Tuna shows stand out
One was a great electric set seen with my bro a few years ago at the Stone Pony
the other was just this past December - an acoustic show seen from 20 feet away with the love of my life

Oh and one to come - This April my bro the LomL and I are heading to Jorma's ranch in Ohio for a Hot Tuna show only about 100 people get to go, but Billy has a connection who got us three tix!
Cannot wait

We have very similar tastes. Your classic rock aggrees with mine, and my Girlfriend plays Tenor and Alto Sax. I've played Viola since I was eleven years old. I picked it because nobody else did. Hearing a huge brass band can really kick some ass. I'd still pick CSNY and Santana though.

Springsteen, Born in the USA tour, was epic. I saw REM with about 200 other people waaay back in 84 at the Commodore in Vancouver. They have a suspended dance floor that the crowd gets bouncing. Last summer I saw Ben Harper at an outdoor festival, he was great too.

I saw John Denver at The Greek Theater in the Hollywood Hills, and it was fantastic. You knew the words to every song, and every song was good, bringing back memories of your childhood.

We've lost a lot of good musicians over the years. Brad Delp from Boston committed suicide a year or two back. We lost Hendrix and Joplin WAY too young too. Same with John (Lenon and Denver.)

Well, I'm a young guy and listen to more hard rock / metal...so I may be a little atypical here

I'd have a hard time choosing between Black Sabbath in '01, or Iron Maiden / Judas Priest last year. Iron Maiden truly puts on a show!
