Lemme guess.. It was for research purposes..

Let me preface this with these two things.

1 - Yeah, I know there are lots of D's AND R's in hot water lately, - same as usual - but this one speaks more to hypocrisy, as well as to issues in my life.
2 - I'm only liking it from Huffington Post because it was the first on the search results...

Looks like quite the angry closet queen to me..

I loved the one comment - "Some repubs say they need a bigger tent, I say they need a bigger closet."

Close to 45 years I've been watching pols of all stripes make fools of themselves. The old saying is still true - the more things change, the more they stay the same.

To expect leaders from either side of the aisle (or pulpit) to be somehow graced with better behavior or morals than the rest of us . . . is delusion.

I do not think it has anything to do with a higher standard. Ashburn, Foley, Haggard and the rest are out condemning the very life style that they they them selves are living. This goes beyond hypocrisy. This goes into self loathing behavior that they are taking out on others. This is like a black man voting for Jim Crow laws.

Politicians are sleazy in general but I believe this goes to a different level.

I really wish I could have said it this well, I totally agree with you.

Overcompensation, for a perceived weakness.

No acceptance of themselves or others.

Fear based life.

Try to put themselves up on a pedestal to prove they are better than the others that they really want to be.

Have a longer fall back down to reality.

Self loathing is the thought that came to mind with me also. There's a new agey, self-help notion that the stuff that most angers you in other people is the stuff within your own self that you hate. It's like you're well versed in loathing certain traits as you've had plenty of practice loathing them within yourself. And you take the frustration of not being able to overcome it in your own life out on others.

People, People, People!! Lets not make this any more complex than it has to be. Also, I think that comparing it to a black person voting for Jim Crow laws is not really accurate. The black person is NOT trying to get re-elected or elected with club money.

Bottom line is they think their future is best in this group and therefore they go there. Problem is, like any other club, this one has it's rules. Remember that turncoat Republican who switched to Dem? People who support him will tell you that he went with his conscience and all those lofty ideals. Fact is, and even he admitted it, he thought it would be harder to get re-elected as a Rep than a Dem. Or how about Reggie White who came to Green Bay because his god told him so? On a side note, he finally admitted that the huge paycheck had something to do with it.

It's all about my future. The math is very simple. Which party gives me the best shot at a good future. Remember the scene from Ghostbusters?

Quote:
Janine Melnitz: Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis?
Winston Zeddemore: Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.

Or to sum it up with that oft-used phrase - follow the money.

There is just as much money for dems as there is for republicans so i am not sure that argument makes any sense in this case. He is gay. Foley is gay. Craig is gay. Yet they play for a team that that is dead fast against them. The republicans want to ban being gay if they had their way. No marriage, no benefits, no equal rights. In my opinion, you really have to hate your self in order to align your self in such a manner. Like I said earlier, it's like a black man voting for Jim Crow laws. How do you hate your self that much? Is it religion that tells him he is bad?

I feel sorry for him. I hope he finds help.

Not if you don't get elected and if you don't hold a good position. A lot of it happens to be where you are at the time. If you happen to make a lot of Rep friends and you are in a Rep area, does it make sense to try to be a Dem or vice versa? I think not.

They might be bi for all you know. But so what? My wife doesn't agree with everything her company says but on the surface, she will espouse their values. Behind the scenes, she might just disagree with them but in private. When I worked for someone else, I did the same. I would never criticize my CEO or their policies publicly but if we were having a beer together, I might tell you what I think of some of their moves. A slight difference though. The people who own the Reps want them to agree to certain things to get their money. Think about this. Will the Dem party accept me knowing that I am openly against unions and gay people? Probably not.

True but does he really believe what he says he does? As I have said, people say much, believe in few and do even fewer of what they say.

If he is really that conflicted, Ace Hardware sells ropes.

maybe he'd be doing us a favor...

Whether he says one thing and believes another, it says a lot about his lack of character that he can't align himself with what he believes but only with what sells.. I full well know that one's sexual orientation does not hinder or increase one's ability to be a selfish prick, but to align yourself with someone or something that is against your very existence, is just a sell out..

I can hear his rants up til this point...
Queers !! Queers !! Queers !! I hate queers !! No rights, privileges or protections for queers !! They don't even deserve to live because they're abominations in the lord's eyes !!! Now excuse me while I follow that young man to the mens room....

You are looking for character in a politician? Really? Most people only feel their politician "has character", "votes his conscience", "does the right thing" when he/she does something they agree with. If not, the guy is scum of the earth. A politician believes in whatever will get him re-elected. See post 10 and the Ghostbusters quote.

Of course they are a sell out. Duh!!

A scorpion, being a very poor swimmer, asked a turtle to carry him on his back across a river. "Are you Scorpion mad?" exclaimed the turtle. "You'll sting me while I'm swimming and I'll drown."

"My dear turtle," laughed the scorpion, "if I were to sting you, you would drown and I would go down with you. Now where is the logic in that?"

"You're right!" cried the turtle. "Hop on!" The scorpion climbed aboard and halfway across the river gave the turtle a mighty sting. As they both sank to the bottom, the turtle resignedly said:

"Do you mind if I ask you something? You said there'd be no logic in your stinging me. Why did you do it?"

"It has nothing to do with logic," the drowning scorpion sadly replied. "It's just my character."
