CB radios ????

It came up in the speed limit thread and I was just wondering how many have a CB what kind and how much power your pushing. How many bells and whistles etc.

Whats your handle ?? Can I get a radio check out there ?? Any one got a copy ??

I promise an 8 track thread will not follow !!

I got a Galaxy DX66V at a flea market for $5. Pretty good deal I think its 8 watts, and I'm about to install a 102" hitch mounted antenna...

they are correct about the wattage, the more the better. also, CB's
have an emergency channel lock out that you can use to call for
help if you need help. once upon a time, the CB saved my bacon
by alerting me to a jackknifed semi that was just over a hill (out of view)
while driving at NIGHT. had I not had the CB tuned to channel 19, I
could have easily plowed into the guy while doing 70 MPH.

Isn't it set up by law that you cannot have more than 3 watts of transmission power or something like that for CB radios?

Thats what the rules say.
Mirage 88 peaked and tuned. 5 watts modulating 22 watts swinging.
Pushing a 10 pill home built linear. Only to be fired up after dark when the neighbors TV's are off.

Well, if them are the rules, how do you push more power if the manufacturer doesn't make it capable of that?

Take a number and get in line like everyone else. We hate people that try jump queues.

CB's can be hot **** on a road trip. My handle is JiveTurkey (naturally) but I havent had one in a long time. Like I said over in the speed limits thread, I'm thinking of finding a nice vintage one (I already have a Super Snooper LR... and it WORKS!) and putting it in the w114. That big chrome rear bumper would be the perfect mount for a nice big whip antenna. I'm glad there's still people out there who use CB power.

Handles aren't necessary anymore - all the cursing has no identifying handles out there.

CBs are a must for all the travelling I do in my diesel coach - not so much for radar traps - moreso for the traffic back ups you come upon or hear about way up ahead.

Not trying to be a smarta**. Think of it like this My stock GMC suburban is 255 hp. I opened the exhaust changed air intake and power chipped it. HP now pushing 300. If you know what pots to turn and which limiting resistors to change you can change the final output power. Take a look at this site www.cbradiosplus.com/peak-and-tune-cb-radios.asp

Just got my 102" in today! Its a bit longer than expected (can't stand it up in my apartment) but should do pretty well on the car. Just have to weld up a mount.

Just like turning up the ALDA !

Cobra 29 with a conex board swinging 32 watts barefoot with a silver eagle 200 watt linear for when you just want to reach out and touch someone !!
Almost forgot the talkback with a echo.

I agree on the cursing joe mine stays off around truck stops and in town.
Basically use it as the smart highway system and bear alert.
