Garage floor seam stuff question
I'm currently engaged in a major renovation of my garage. Trying to upgrade it to a man cave, showroom, workshop, gunsmithing etc space. Does anybody have any experience with that stuff that is inserted into the gap between the concrete slabs and stem walls. Kind of like a sort of fibrous spacing material. Mine looks really crappy and I was wondering if it's feasible to remove or replace. Or maybe use some kind of abrasive toold to get as much of it out as possible and fill up the gap with industrial strength silicone or something lke that.

Hi Peter, the fibrous material is used for expansion in the joint. It's usually asphalt impregnated fiber board. If it's sticking up above the slab you can trim it down with a knife. If you want to seal it with a caulking compound there are special concrete compounds. Sika flex is one, use whatever product is available in your area. Before you apply the sealer you want to have a joint thats wider than it is deep, you may have to use a backing rod (roto-foam) in the joint to get the proper depth. The concrete has to be clean enough for the compound to bond to it. If your going to epoxy the floor, use whatever product the epoxy supplier recommends. Good luck.
