Business license is usually less than $50 at your local city/state office.

Open up and use profits from your WORK to file for an LLC if you truly think
you need it.

Setting up an LLC in most states takes about 10-15 minutes on line with a credit card. Here in NJ, on line filing asks 4 or 5 questions and costs 200.00 or so iirc.

That done, you may need a federal id number easily obtained at irs.gov. And you will need to register for collection and payment of other state taxes, (payroll, sales, excise, etc if they are in your business)

The legal documents and formalities (aka the operating agreement) are key in the llc venue, especially if there is more than 1 member. A single member llc is a disregarded entity for income tax purposes. The operating agreement spells out rights, duties, dissolution procedures and pretty much whatever you want to include.

Consult a tax advisor or an attorney. This is not more than an hour's worth of work to set up. Tops.

Visit your state's web site for the department of revenue/taxation and/or the secretary of state or just google "business formation in _____" to get you going.

Keep the 641.00

I have been a Sole Proprietor for 20 years now. I think I will change to a LLC this year.
