Would you rather? Car decision.

I am buying a new car and am torn over what to get.

I am a BMW man by nature, I am just having a hard time finding a good enough 740il. I have had a few of them before and know what is involved with maintenance and I am able to DIY.

I have found a nice Lexus ls430 (2002) which has lots of toys, but lacks the soul of the Bimmer.

So...the question is what would you rather have?

I'd rather have the BMW..........but, I'm biased.......never drove an LS.

The two are really different vehicles. Although the LS is a fine vehicle, I don't think it can match the handling of a BMW.

If you consider looks..........there really is no comparison. The LS looks like any four door sedan........the only distinguishing characteristic is the emblem.

Additionally, you have experience with the BMW.............why give that up for the unknown LS?

The last year of the E-38..........I'm a bit tempted myself.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any ricer because they aren't very interesting. I'm not a big fan of newer bimmers either, bit I would take it over the Toyota.

Seems like your question is a tad comparing apples to oranges.

Me? The 2002 LS430. Nothing better in my book for what I use a car for - reliable transportation, with high reliabilty, resale, with a lot 'o cache'.... Might be my age kicking in however - don't know your age.

Isn't the BMW brand by in large known as a performance car?

Either one represents a good value buying pre-owned...

You need to ask yourself this: Do you want a very nice, very fancy transportation appliance or a driver's car that will require more bits and bobs to keep going. Answer that and you know what car you should buy.

You are right! I do want a car I want to drive. I think I am going to go for the Bimmer if I can find a good* one by the time I need it. The lexus has many fun toys, but the Bimmer has soul.

Yes, I am comparing apples to oranges. That is exactly the point. I like oranges personally.

Well then, that settles it - when shopping oranges, don't buy one with 'orange peel' in the paint's reflective finish.

Having been a 740i sport owner, prepare to throw a lot of money at it. Helluva' driving car though. The Lexus is Buick-- yawn.

Like I've said...I've had a few before. I am prepared for it, and done most of the mx that is involved.

Then the answer is obvious.

While the 7 Series BMW will never be a sports car, the Lexus makes it seem like a race car. If you want a cushy, reliable ride, get the Lexus. If you want something that can handle corners and curves, get the BMW. The LS drives like a much quieter, smoother RWD Toyota Camry.

You can put a lot of miles on either car, and things will break eventually on the Lexus...when they do, they're not cheap to fix. You'll have more piddly little issues with the BMW: window motors, other electrical gremlins and the like, but nothing that will keep it from starting in the morning. I voted for the BMW.
