Best Luxury Car

I posted a question before about a preference between a few cars I was thinking about buying. My list was very small (2 choices), so I wanted to see what people thought with a variance. Let the battle begin.

What is your favorite top standard production luxury model?

I was going to make a poll, but there are way too many choices.

The best ever from what standpoint?

If you posed the question, if you have to drive one luxury sedan for the rest of your life, I would choose the 1989-1991 300SEL. Reliable, as comfortable as any other car, reasonably fast, and relatively simple.

Otherwise, the options are endless.

Rolls Royce or Bentley. But the real ones, not the new ones you can get for under $200k.

MB's are nice, but these guys bring it to another level. As you would expect when paying $400k for a car.

My single "cost is no object" car would probably be a nice W108/109. From a "practical driver" point of view my W123 diesels are the "best." If I wanted something bigger, I guess I would be looking for a W116/126. Nothing newer is very interesting to me.

Talked to a guy at the dealership who had a 07 CL600 and a DB9 and had owned a Bentley Continental GT. He said that the CL600 was a much better car than the Bentley but he liked the DB9 most of all.

My oldest friend
from college (he's a lawyer now) scooped up this '93 Bentley Brooklands (the "grocery getter" one at the Bentley/Lamborghini dealer in San Francisco for right under $30k out the door.....back in November '09 around Thanksgiving..

I had driven him in to SF to get it, and they took me to dinner in it.

I loved riding in it and made him promise me put on a chauffer's jacket and hat, to take my newest g/f to dinner in it - while we make out in the back seat!!!

It's real sumptious back there!!!

British car magazine summarized it thusly...

A truly Edwardian gin palace on wheels.....

Pro: Sails along !!!

Con: Slack at the tiller !!!!

PMC's rule OK !!!
