F-16's buzzing....

OK which one of you called the air force?

Seriously, there are 4 F-16's buzzing my neighborhood and we do not live near an air base. Been here in this house since 97 and cannot remember being buzzed before. They have made at least 6 or 7 passes at very low altitude in various directions. The last pass was close enough to verify that they were not T-birds or Blue Angles. The first pass sounded like it was right over head and very close to breaking the sound barrier.

Pretty cool but I am curious ....

Just called the local news. Opening day at the Rangers stadium. Whew..... I got a bit nervous for a second.

Lockheed Martin factory in Ft Worth makes them and services them, and there is (or was, it's been a while ) a Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie, sounds like one of them just changed their flight paths, or the Lockheed plant is delivering serviced planes to the Air Station. When I lived in Ft Worth, I used to get a fabulous air show for free on the Samson Park bluffs as the test pilots took them off the Lockheed (then General Dynamics) assembly line and rock and rolled those bad boys over Lake Worth. Man, those dudes can take off on ten feet of runway and then turn straight up like a rocket, one hell of a sight.

Take 820 North into FW, get off at the Jacksboro highway exit going south, take your first right onto Robert's Cutoff and turn right a couple of blocks into the park, go to the edge of the cliff, look across the lake and you will see the plant and the airstrips, hang out and enjoy the show! Great place to sip a beer in DFW. I bet TxJake knows the exact spot I'm talking about.

It is the beginning; if you look closely, those F16 are flying the colors of the Texas Republic...President Perry will address the new country tonight.

I remember back in my old home country Holland; F16's were used for reconnaissance flights. And it was not uncommon if they were used to help law enforcement when a person went missing or they were looking for a tea bagger that went of the grid.:P

I lived near a air training base years ago. When the joy flights got too annoying we used to go outside and fly our box kite. It had strips of foil on it & its tail. Normally withing 1/2hr there would be an air force car driving up & down the road. It must have put an extra blip on their radar!! :D

I'm not real wild about jets buzzing about over much. Once when I was driving over Stevens Pass in WA I suddenly thought I heard a semi coming at me with all the tires locked up. Screeching tires like I couldn't believe. I practically pulled a neck muscle whipping my head around so hard.

Turned out it was some fighter jet that had come up behind and over me, very low, and then proceeded on up over the crest of the pass, which I was close to, doing barrel rolls and the like.

Friggin' hot dog.

when I was in San Diego for business it was a constant niusance. I dont know how San Diegoans stand it. Lunch weather was awesome but with all of the fighters overhead you couldnt hear yourself think let alone carry on a conversation. It went from early morning to dusk, constant pairs over head. I guess its greta to be at Miramar flight school but it sure did suck to be on the ground.

We used to ski Lake Worth, the F-16's were cool but they were not too loud. The B-52's were LOUD, but nothing compared to the fuel heavy KC-130's. Those things would stand on the throttle at the end of the runway and you wondered if they would ever make it off the ground.

I used to live near Hill Street and Carrier in Grand Prairie, and one day I was sitting at the table working on something and some jets screamed right over the house. Then they did it again and again.

I went outside to see what the deal was... Blue Angels practicing for the air show at Hensley Field (Navy Dallas).

The observation point above the Lake Worth dam has such a good view of the airfield at what used to be Carswell AFB that some Russian spys were caught there taking photos of the base in the late 1950's.

If you make it to Lake Worth check out a spot called Mosque Point. A really pretty view of the lake.
