NASCAR / TMS Question

Answer me this, all you car buffs:

Are these NASCAR fans that fanatical, or just dumber than a box of rocks?

As I do with most of the races at Texas Motor Speedway. I fly people to and from the track in the 407.

Actually, this year I spent the better part of the day either on the ground at TMS or at Meacham Field. Not a lot of flying.

When I did fly to and from the track today, I found it a bit disturbing that so many people will just sit there in the stands. In the rain. Huddled up tight. Wearing plastic garbage bags. Waiting for something that isn’t going to happen any time soon.

It was actually kind of a sad sight to see.
All I could think was: What a bunch of morons.

- Shelby

First I generally enjoy watching NASCAR, but I am far far far from fanatical.

Next in response to your question the rocks are worthy of a nobel peace prize by comparison.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NASCAR is a business, little or nothing more, realize it, deal with it, get over it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I still want an attorney to represent me suing NASCAR for false advertising.

Is there ONE SINGLE STOCK PART ON THE TRACK DURING A RACE !!!!

Lets go to relatively STOCK CARS(safety mods allowed), must get ??? MPG, only ?? tires (not sets) per SEASON, pump your own gas (I don't know of a station that pumps for you anymore, I know there are some but), must run on street fuel ...,
Chevy cars cannot run Ford rear ends, Toyotas cannot run V-8s (they don't have cars with V-8s) ....................
Toyotas must have sticking gas pedals, oops.

OK off my soap box, I like road racing turn left, turn right, brake, up shift, down shift ....

But I want NASCAR to use STOCK CARS.

If you can leave the airport while you are there I can recommend a Mexican Restaraunt on North Main. It is south of Exchange, right there where Main takes a bend to the left as you go towards downtown.

It is located in a building that used to be an old school.

I grew up just off of Long Avenue, south of Meachem. Swanky part of town, 'eh?

The thing I find interesting about that part of town is that is has not changed in over sixty years. Well, the city did pave the streets and widen Long Ave., but besides that.....

By the way, when WVOtoGO is talking about these people sitting in the rain he means RAIN. It is raining here in Oklahoma, but in Fort Worth it is RAINNNNNING. It would make you wonder why people would just sit out in it waiting for a race to start.

Rather than agree with you that they're dumber than rocks, I'll just say that I don't understand their fanaticism at all. They probably don't understand my fanaticism about MBs either; to each their own.

What's the quote from the movie "the blind side" about never seeing so many rednecks in one place? When football movies are making fun of NASCAR fans, it's pretty bad.

Nascar is the dumbest **** that car enthusiast can follow. It has become too commercial.

2010 ratings aren't on there, but the drop is even more dramatic. It only averaged 13 million. (Lowest since 2000)

Too commercialized, too many rules, and the cars aren't even stock any more. If the exact same events of the Daytona 500 of 1979 happened under today's rules, it would have been another Green-White-Checker to finish, unless there was a previous caution the lap before. In that case they would have just given the win to whoever was out in front before the crash. Then the two guys fighting in the infield would have been fined 100 grand each and suspended from 3 races. (Yawn)

I watch the highlight reels of races sometimes, only for the obvious reason:

Tri-ovals are just too boring to watch...

I'm sure your NASCAR fan passengers are grateful you're such a dedicated worker, willing to give up your Sunday to serve "a bunch of morons."

Keep your chin up....

I'm a fan. I don't make it to many (Sprint Cup) races but my parents usually take their camper to 3 or 4 different races a year. For all the "trailer trash" derision NASCAR fans get, we're not much different from the rest of you.

INCOME DISTRIBUTION
NASCAR fans are middle class and just as affluent as the U.S. population: 47% earn $50,000+ per year (100 index vs. U.S. population)

Income U.S. Population NASCAR Fans
Income / NASCAR Fans / U.S. Population / NASCAR fans vs. U.S. Population
Under $30,000 / 31% / 31% / 100
$30,000-$50,000 / 22% / 22% / 100
$50,000-$70,000 / 16% / 17% / 106
$70,000-$100,000 / 15% / 15% / 100
$100,000+ / 16% / 15% / 94
$50,000+ / 47% / 47% / 100

The thing to remember with the Sprint Cup races (and to a lesser extent the Nationwide) is that the vast majority of fans are traveling to attend the race, they've already booked hotels or camping spaces. Some can extend that time off to attend the postponed races, some can not. Most venues don't let you leave the facility and come back in and many don't have covered concession areas, or at least covered areas large enough to hold the average 120,000 in attendance. That essentially leaves two choices: 1) Leave and hope they postpone the race or 2) Hang around and hope they race (especially for those who have to travel back home on Sunday).

Passed by the speedway last thursday...a LOT of high-dollar campers and vehicles parked there! Affluent morons maybe?

Soccer games were cancelled last weekend due to rain...and this is a sport where kids play on turf wearing cleats...so why would anyone expect cars to compete on a wet asphalt surface with slicks????!!!!

I'm not surprised if there is a large crossover between the camper owners and the NASCAR fans. You can't buy good taste.

Did you see the chinese GP on sunday, they seem to be able to drive in the rain?

They've got jet dryers to dry the track off once it stops. I suppose they could put tread tires on them and race in the rain at half speed. I suppose it might be exciting. I'd rather take a raincheck and see them running around 200.

But, hey, if you can't find good ol' I'm-better-than-you pretention at an MB site where can you?
