Thumbs down iTunes ver. 9.1.1...uses 100% CPU

On Windows...title says it all.

No fix from Apple on this one yet...

Windows What? What version? What CPU? Details details....

I have never had any such issue with CPU usage, though admittedly iTunes is bloated and a resource hog.

Are you running a 32 bit OS? How much ram is itunes using? try reinstalling it or using a different version, that may help

Older machine and form factor, so I have the max RAM my slots allow, which is 1.024G. CPU is 1.6 Mhz and I run Windows XP.

Haven't checked the other PCs in the house (which also run XP, but are newer boxes, with 3.2 Mhz CPUs and 2.048 G RAM). But I googled some forums and others are ranting about the same issues.

Strangely enough, even if I de-prioritize the iTunes process, it drops capacity briefly, only to once again, hog all available CPU. Pretty strange.

I've got iTunes on my 1.6ghz netbook with 1gb of ram and it runs fine. I would try reinstalling it before anything. Don't select the quicktime, toolbar, add-on crap when installing, usually you can uncheck them.

I don't accept the add-ons, but I believe QuickTime is required. Nevertheless, despite it's large footprint, it's run just fine on my machine until I downloaded the latest version.

Were you careful in the download? Quite often they come with add on items for all sorts of crap and you deselect them. Quite a few applications come with say the Yahoo Toolbar or Google toolbar and I have to tell them in the setup that I don't want it or uninstall it later on. Check what active services you have on and see if that is a problem.

With a 1.6 Mhz CPU I think we have found your problem.
