Automotive Dreamers are funny
There's a guy in my office who really isn't very 'automotive' but likes to think he is.
He owns a 60's Jeep that has been in restoration for about 4 years. He hired a guy to restore it to mint condition. The problem is that the restorer himself is the former owner of the Jeep. His father owned it. It's been 4 years and it has not moved on its own power. The restorer is clearly in love with the Jeep. I think in his mind, if he ever finishes the project, he will lose it. There's always a reason why it isn't running yet...."waiting for a part" is often the reason. The poor owner has been talking about riding the Jeep in parades, etc for the past year. I've tried to convince him that he is being taken for a ride. It's almost like talking to an alcoholic. He is always 'right'!

This strikes me too as questionable behavior - no project ever gets done.
A buddy of mine in Omaha went '57 Chevy vintage lots 'o years ago. He's branched out into dragging home other relics from the time too. All in need of lots 'o work. His '57 Chevy has been at one restoration guy's shop going on 6-years now. He's also got a vintage '60 or so Chevy pick up that been in a front end shop for months too. He curses the shop owner that has the '57 Chevy - he has for years - the last deadline he gave the alcoholic shop owner was to complete it by Christmas 2009 - but there's been no movement on getting the job completed. I sometimes wonder whether it's really worth the aggravation - even to die-hard vintage guys like my buddy. Apparently it is - since his b*tching about the shop(s) continues unabated...

Both posts are indicative of owners with good intentions but a ridiculous ability to procrastinate beyond belief.
But to allay any guilt about doing such with their own projects, they both chose to farm out the vehicles to others, so they can whine about others not completing the tasks.

Last year I had three bicycle frames in the house waiting to be built up. They'd been sitting there for three years. Got it down to one now. It needs to get painted.

And the shop owners are waiting for a progress payment
