I need one of these!

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=167636756

An exact copy of an STG44, without the cost and Class 3 needed for a real one. So evil looking.

I’m not saying that thing wouldn’t be rather fun.

If you want one, and plan on using it for just such a purpose (fun), go get one and let us know how it goes.
(And that statement was brought to you in living color, via a gun toting Liberal, BTW !!)

However – upon closer inspection of the pics. It sure looks cheaply “stamped out” to me.
It looks to have the material and build quality of a $20.00 Daisy Buck or Red Rider BB gun. I sure hope it’s a little “heavier” than it looks.

I'm sticking with the M4.

Note to self –
Don’t ramble on with comparisons to other stamped out toys.
Just come out with blunt facts, like: POS.

Hattie, that is an excellent companion to your Benz collection lol. If history has tough us anything its that those Germans sure know how to make mechanical things, with the highlights being autos, and guns!

I just bought a CETME kit. while not a German weapon, it is the direct decedent of Germany as it was designed for the Spanish by German gun designers who were prohibited from making guns for Germany. The gun later became the HK G3 in Germany. It has parts interchange with the G3.

I love Guns, and German engineering. just playing with the parts kit is interesting.

I wonder if the high opinion of German quality really is valid in the WW2 era? Don't you think that quality might have suffered for need of quantity for awhile? Or did they all look like museum pieces back in the day?
No idea, just sayin'.......
What I've heard is for example a current P51 restoration level is now so high, that the guys who were there say that the planes either never looked that good even when they left the factory. For the more authentic restorations, they have to tone it down a bit to look really original, and even then they only looked that good for about the first 5 flights.

The quality is on par if not better than the real ones. The whole idea was to be able to make them cheap and fast of stampings. The Russians were getting close to Germany when they started fielding these and they needed as many as they could make.

Most sub guns of that vintage are made out of cheap stamped steel; grease gun, sten, PPSH, AK47, G3 etc.

The Germans kept the quality up, even German weapons made in 1945 are pretty much the same as those made in the 30's. The Germans are OCD they don't make junk. Some people argue their was a slight drop off but its pretty subjective.

Now other countrys are a different matter. Towards the end Japan started to make some real junk. They were down to making rifles in peoples back yards and they were about as basic as a rifle could get. These "last ditch" rifles are actualy very collectable now.

The Russians never really cared about quality and throughout the war you can see they skipped a lot of machining process on everything to get it out the door faster. They simply didn't give a damn about pretty, as long as it worked. What I will say about the Russian stuff is while crude it does work, and did exactly what they wanted it to, no more or less.

The STG44 was not a junk or last ditch weapon. It was supposed to be the next standard issue rifle for the army and replace the K98.

Ehhhh, the Me 262 fighter-jet wasn't exactly what I'd put on par with the quality of the rest of their planes. Sure, it was faster and the first jet fighter, but the rivets and fragility of the system, not to mention the lack of quality control on the bodywork didn't make it a 'Mercedes-Benz' of airplanes.

I will give you the quality of their weapons though; the only country I'll ever put on par with the United States for weapon durability.

Good luck. M16 family is not a robust, super reliable weapon system. Loads of data to back that up.
