Those, those.... troublemakers in CA...

Wanna be sent home from school for being a troublemaker? just wear an American flag shirt or bandanna on Cinco De Mayo and you'll be labeled as "incendiary" and "insensitive" - I guess being TOO patriotic and "insensitive".... how dare they?

What's next... ban the English language in order not to offend the Spanish-speaking culture on 'their' holiday? It's getting ridiculous...

While the First Amendment may protect the right to be a provocative douchebag, you can bet that if could be established that the administrators saw the shirts and bandanas, did nothing, and subsequently those students got the whee stomped out of them after 7th period, the lawsuits would fly.

It depends on the dress code policy of the school.

When I was in high school we had a strict uniform. Guys had to either wear khaki or blue pants with a blue or white polo. Hoodies could be worn only if they had the school name or logo on them. Girls had all sorts of leeway so I'm not going to even mention them here.

After looking at the Morgan Hill School District's page on their dress code policy, it appears that the schools can do whatever they want in terms of dress.

I would have been all for a day off in high school. Go ahead and send me home

Thumbs down Absurd.

Place the administators on unpaid leave pending a public hearing, and change the laws they interpreted to now SPECIFICALLY allow the wearing of US flag on clothing and head gear on the Cinco de Mayo.

Then broadly publicize it in local Spanish language media.

Any Mexicans and Latino's that don't like it should go to Mexico on their own dime (or Peso) and get their education in Mexico.

I am from California, Morgan Hill is south of San Jose and is probably overwhelmed with people like that, because of their phenomenal birthrate and the stupid law that makes ALL their babies, of illegals or not, automatically US citizens.

Does this mean that if a Mexican displays their flag on the Fourth of July that I can claim that I am offended? What a crock of ****! The principal acted on his own and he should be fired. This is the end of our freedom as we know it when you cannot wear the American flag at a school in America because it is some other third world countries Hallmark holiday. If anyone would like to call the Morgan Hill school district their # is 408-201-6000.

Are you implying that wearing an American flag at an American school makes one a "provocative douchebag"? I hope I am taking your statement out of context.

I don't have to play stupid- it comes naturally to me. I'm glad I was wrong.

I submit that the image of the American flag was being misused by those students to demonstrate intolerance of, and provoke animosity from, American citizens of Mexican descent who were celebrating an element of their heritage during an annual Mexican holiday. Of course, if you can submit that those kids routinely wore t-shirts and bandanas adorned with American flags, and it was just a coincidence that they had them on during Cinco de Mayo, I'll just have to eat my words.

well, i'm the one on this board usually called liberal-commie etc., but i think if you lived here in california, you'd understand how sick we are of being overrun by a group that wants to (and will) turn this place into mexico north. as much as i criticize (my right as an american citizen) our society, i certainly don't want anything remotely connected with the corrupt, "macho", heavily catholic, anti-intellectual, jingoistic, have/have not culture to the south. and yes, go down south and try to wave an american flag. or hang out and work as an "undocumented alien".

anyway, as i said, its a fait acompli. in ten years, los angeles will be a sprawling mess, like, say, lagos, nigeria, or a certain "distrit federale" somewhere. and the immigrants will wonder how it happened, that the place they escaped to now resembles the mess they left.

Hey, the original European settlers overran the resident Indians and turned most of the land we know as USA into Europe West. I think the Indians were fairly sick of us until we stomped most of them out. Majority rules, and creates a new cultural paradigm.

yes, and what does that have to do with me, here and now. my family came here in the early 1900's (father) and 1950's (mother), legally and with respect for their new land. my 56 year old grandfather quickly learned his third language, and was happy to be here after surviving two world wars in europe.

ever heard of "tyranny of the majority".

p.s. checked out the crime rate (i.e. drug murders) down in mexico lately? and the spillover into arizona and california?

oh, and paradigms? yes, that will be the hourly wage.

That was exactly my point in my preceding post. A new majority is forming and flexing their cultural muscle. If you want to dilute their power, those who share your cultural ideals better start making a lot more babies.
