No anti theft system is perfect.

I remember when my cousins boyfriends Honda Civic was stolen. Then moved a non running Blazer, got the Civic out of the garage, winched it onto a trailer, towed it to a bad section of New Haven, and by the time the cops found it 2 days later it was an empty husk on cinder blocks.

Sorry but I don't follow the insurance company reasoning. I must be dumb.

The immobilizer system on 2000 era VWs is a joke. For that matter so is the odometer. With a $50 ebay cable and stolen software I can get the secret key code, change the odometer to whatever I want, program more keys... it's too easy. I'd think a similar system for other makes is available too.

Back before alarm systems were popular, I made my own alarm system. I had a 1974 Dodge Dart. I ran some wires from the battery to the little switch in the door jams that activate the interior lights to the horn. I had a toggle switch mounted in the bumper. It worked well for me.

I used to leave the keys in my Dart... The car itself was the anti-theft device

I eventually left it with both sets of keys and the title, thumbtacked to the dashboard. Gone in about two weeks...

A scrapyard would have given some $$ for it.

My Benz was stolen once, I reported it to the police. They found it in my back yard, I was arrested.

Don't kid yourself, they are all crooks, and would screw you outta a nickel if they could.

Basic rule of thumb - If the insurance company has TV ads, then they will try to deny or reduce payment as a regular course of business.

BTW, there is a Progressive office, with agents at desks, just a few blocks from where I used to work. I believe there are also GEICO offices with real people, however it has been many years since my last GEICO policy.

It saw it around town every now and then. Was kind of cool to see the free car cruising around.

With the caliber of agent out there - it's a more enjoyable experience without them. Besides, more $$$ for the bottom line of the insurance company.

Yes - Geico is a Berkshire-Hathaway company. Buy on-line and save $$$!

It is not a more enjoyable experience to have a claim without a personal agent. Your agent works for you. And if you have a bad agent, who's fault is that? The carrier's? No, that's on you.

And I do not believe that Geico could save me money on car insurance. In fact, I disbelieve it so much that I'm not going to waste my time to give them my SSN and VINs.

the stories of people being jerked over by an insurance giant are legend. there is a reason the tallest buildings in most cities are owned by insurance companies. those buildings were built with YOUR cash. never forget that.

speaking of Berkshire Hathaway check out the following story......YIKES!
