HR5353, Reduce deficit, eliminate taxes on first 35,000 of everyones personal income.

HR5353, Reduce deficit, eliminate taxes on first 35,000 of everyone's personal income.
But it will end the separate extra funding of second war.

Not all funding, not even the normal funding, but separate, extra funding for the second war.

Who will win ?

The taxpayer, or the defense contractors ?

Lets see how the media spins this story in the next week or so.
Or if it gets reported on at all.

Hmmm, 5353 has nothing to do with taxes.

As far as realistic tax reform goes, I like the Wyden-Gregg proposal.

Wyden-Gregg tax reform.

I'm all for decreasing the defense budget. Over half of the budget is spent on it.

Or maybe putting the money into another pot. There are a lot of poorly edumacated students out there.

What he said.....
HR 5353 has nothing to do with taxes. It is also known as the Internet Freedom Act...........of 2008! I wouldn't expect to see much about this in the media, liberal or conservative.

Check your fire until you check your sources.

There is no such thing as meaningful tax reform, in my professional opinion.

As sure as the sun rises in the east the VAT will never replace the income tax.
Most likely it will come, but as a companion tax revenue source.

The word is "regressive".

If Europe is the example of VAT in practice, I would have to say, No thanks.

The funny thing about all of this is that all of this spending was done by reps elected by the people. Well, the people, instead of being dead beats, need to pay their bills. Republicans do this big blamey whine, yet what they are really saying is the same thing as some dead beat: I don't want to pay the bills. Sooner or later the American electorate is either going to have to grow up and face up to the fact we've run up huge debts putting trillion dollar wars on the national credit card while passing out free money in the form of tax cuts to the biggest group of dead beats of all when it comes to paying the government's tab - the very rich, or go belly up broke. Income taxes simply don't work to solve the kind of financial problems we have, the poor and the rich get off scott free while those of us in the middle take it up the yazoo. The only way to make sure everyone pays is a VAT.

I agree with everything you say. Yes things are the way they are because we all keep electing the same 535 reps time after time, with maybe a 5-10% change around the fringes each election.

As citizens, we all like entitlements, we all need entitlements and at cocktail parties we all ***** and moan but deep down, we all don't particularly care how or if they get paid. (I' m paraphrasing Jack Nicholson here)

Our 535 are more than willing to keep feeding and caring for us on the cuff to keep themselves comfortable.

Those who like to rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul. Right, Aklim?

We become a nation made up of more and more Pauls with each passing day.
Where are the Peters to come from? (What's Peter in Chinese?)

VATs are regressive. so the hated income tax will always be around to make sure that the "rich" always pay their "fair share". Whoever they are and whatever that is.

I remember paying taxes on $35K.
If I made $35K this year I would pay income and FICA taxes.

What more is there to say. Anyone who has their head screwed on the right way, would understand that, no?

Unfortunately, it will drop onto deaf ears, like anything else that's being suggested to the benefit of bringing the country onto a path of recovery.

After all, "we" have to do it for Israel, which negates any sense of rationality and justifies any means. Even if it means the downfall of America.

Sarcasm intended.

Yeah but its like nothing its a couple grand, if that. What I mean is you really don't start paying taxes that add up to anything until you make more money. Its crazy how it works, half the country gets a free ride. No wonder they keep voting to spend money.

I think you grossly oversimplify. The POLITICIANS set up this financial disaster by promising goodies that "someone else" would pay for; not "you".
Politicians have kicked the can as far down the road as they can, but not its all coming home.
Bad times are ahead.
Blame the repubs if you think that is helpful, but ALL the ruling class did this. The fault of the people was simply re-electing the same politicians--we listened to their rhetoric, and ignored their actions. We paid little attention as we tried to live our lives. The corrupt politicians took advantage and voted themselves nice retirement benefits and their cronies nice payoffs.

Now subjecting us to the devastating effects of a VAT is the "only" solution.

You have killed the economic engine of freedom.
