cars you donated/gave away

Another thread recently got me thinking about cars that I have given to family members/friends in need. The most memorable was a 2001 Kia Rio...bought it brand new for $4750 because it had HORRIBLE hail damage, drove it for 125xxx miles, had unrepaired collision damage on the whole right side and the rear, but ran like a top. The capper was when my Neapolitan Mastiff, Zeus, got scared by something while he was in the car and had mucous-filled diarrhea all over. I cleaned it up, but on humid days you could still catch a whiff of something nasty. I donated it to a woman who had been my kids' nanny...I had fired her and she had no wheels so I gave it to her.

Donated a 82 240D that my dad had purchased new through european deliver. It was the only 240D I have ever seen with Leather. It was destroyed from years in the Texas sun. Had 300,000 + on the ODO but my aunt who drove it said the ODO had been broken for years. Still ran and the A/C worked.

We had a golden retriever that would take a crap (no mucous) inside the house the day before any earthquake we had in Cali. Never anytime else. He predicted Northridge, the others weren't big enough to deserve names worth remembering I guess.

But I really think your Mastiff had to go real bad. And decided that the backseat of a KIA is a perfectly suitable place, maybe actually a downgrade from nice patch of grass.

I usually drive cars into the ground and then give them to the Salvation Army. I figure someone needs them as parts cars and the SA needs the cash.

I have had two cars that went to the salvage yard after they were hit and totalled out, a 124 300D and a 126 300SD. I didn't have a scratch on me!

I gave a 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood 75-sedan limousine to the Omaha Public School System's, Technical High School, near downtown Omaha, NE. in 1979. I paid for the tow truck, and I got a receipt from them. I wrote a few thousand off. Not a bad deal on a car I put 315K miles on.

I don't mean to be too disgusting, but when a 160 LB dog lets loose, then walks around in it, it gets on the headliner, slides down the door panels and under the front seats, in the console, in the seatbelt buckles, etc. It was an eye-opener for me, that's for sure!

I had an 85? BMW 528e that I had for sale on the local BMW club forum for $500, as I recall. A guy I knew told me of a young man who needed a car desperately, so I got in touch with the guy, who gladly took the car for free. Last I heard he was still driving it.

The cab? I'll take it!

I had a '85 fiero SE a friend of mine gave me when I was pressed for a car to get to work in highschool. It quit running when the gas tank of rust went through the fuel pump. My friend and I put a tank in it from his parts cars (I bought a truck by then) and he gave it to a friend of friend who was getting out of the halfway house. AFAIK it really helped him get back on his feet.

I sold a rusted and dented Mazda B2000 pick-up for $1 to a kid for a high school shop project. He thought he made out since the truck had a quarter tank of gas and he found 76 cents under the seat.
I would never give away a vehicle to someone to drive- I would sell it for a dollar.

And just look at it now!! It is beyond "SHOWROOM" mint.

Clearly, there is *NO* topping this story of Patrick's.

I know it because I have seen the car personally several times and even got a ride in it.
