I went over to Moscow, Idaho from Pullman, WA (5 miles) with some college buddies to watch Easy Rider when it came out. Used to have the poster of Hopper on his chopper flipping off the redneck.

Quite a guy. I liked him in Waterworld also, a good enough movie IMO.

I saw him not that long ago in a restaurant in Venice, he looked very old and fragile. He was one of those great seventies actors you don't see anymore these days.
Not many people know this but he was an active republican, sort of surprising after the movies he chose to make.

I knew it...Dennis makes three.

They say famous people die in three's.

First Art Linkletter, then Gary Coleman.

I told my wife the other night there ought to be one more. Just like speeding tickets, they come in three's.

But he voted for Obama. I did not catch why though. I gathered that he walked in some of the civil rights marches so he must have been a dem at one time.

It said he started voting R with Reagan....could have been a reaction to Carter, I suppose.

Hopper has said he voted for O because Palin was on the Republican ticket.

Lest it's forgotten, I'd better mention that little post apocalyptic gem; Waterworld. It seems to make a lot of people groan, but I suppose I like that Mad Max kinda crap.

He directed, - a good movie called "COLORS" back in 1988 about the LAPD, crips v bloods gangs in the Watts area, of Los Angeles.

It was good, too: almost "cinema verite" with the undeniable ring of truth, even featured a car chase with an old '71 Mercury Marquis near the Simon Rodia tower, a Watts landmark.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094894/

"Easy Rider" was what made him a film legend, though.

RIP Dennis
