Thank God, the courageous young sailor has been found . . .

. . . and now Australian, American and French search-and-rescue authorities are cooperating in the rescue attempt.

Ain't it wonderful we have public resources in place to pull teeny-bopper fools out of the remote ocean?

Her position is extremely remote, more than 2,000 miles from Australia and Africa. The nearest ship bound for her position is about 30 hours away . . .

Yes it is a great thing!
One law of the sea is that when somebody is in trouble you go get them.

I am glad she is OK enough that she can wait for a ship to come to her and does not need to be picked up in a chopper.

Ain't it wonderful we have public resources in place to pull the teeny-bopper offspring of fools out of the remote ocean? I hope her parents are sent a bill for the rescue.

I can't imagine encountering 30+ foot seas, in the middle of nowhere, alone as a 16 year old. I was foolish at that age but that is really taking it to a whole 'nother level!

Glad to hear she's okay! Lucky doesn't even begin to describe.

They should make it mandatory to have insurance cover for these little rescues. If not, drown!!!

If you're gonna do something epic make sure you contribute something to the world.

If you're gonna die doing something epic make sure your death means something.

Mom & dad were just spared a lifetime of scorn and ridicule, not to mention sorrow, misery and guilt.

You might just be picking up the tab.

And I agree 100%.

I'm guessing it was a figure of speech. Even as an agnostic, I use that phrase quite often.

As a full time working ocean going boat captain I could not agree more. Yahoos that do this type of stuff ought to have to pay back triple what it costs to rescue them.

I'm glad she is ok, its a shame she isn't going to make it around. I have been following her story in Cruising World for a bit.

Recently there has been a bunch of young people trying for this record. I have somewhat mixed feelings about it, while interesting to watch its quite dangerious.

If the nearest ship is thirty hours away, how far away do you think the nearest chopper is?
