Woman, 28, dies months after given smokers lungs

I can't wait for the government to socialize health care in these United States. then, we will be just like England.

Yes, you have to admire the precision and absence of error in our system.

According to the article, 3 people die each day in England waiting for a transplant, according to my math, that's about .005% of the population. (3 /51450000 / 100) According to the Mayo clinic, 19 people check out daily waiting in the U.S. for about .006% of the population.(19 / 308,000,000 / 100)
No statistical significance. I'd bet the U.S. has the same donor shortage issues now that England has, and I'd bet the pressure to use marginal organs is the same here as it is in England.
Looks to me like this is more of a doctor-patient ethics issue than it is a statement about healthcare systems.

Why pick on England, every other developed nation in the world has some sort of publicly funded health care.

We even pay for publicly funded health care via war funding in two countries.
But not our own ????

Countries in blue have some type of universal health care.
Countries in green are currently attempting to implement some type of universal health care.
Orange countries have universal health coverage provided by United States war funding.

I will check with my medical friends but I think tat the reason this woman died was pneumonia which had nothing to do with the fact that the donor smoked. The poor girl had cystic fibrosis which meant her body was already week from a lack of oxygen. She probably had little change of recovery to begin with. If she got a few extra months her family should be happy...

Now if she died because of an infection due to a dirty operating room or bad post op care that is a different story, but in this case I think the system and the doctors did good.

Now if she had been diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer two weeks after the operation - than I would have had a problem with using those spares...

The US healthcare system ranks far below numerous countries with national health care in numerous areas. Including deaths at birth. Pretty sad. And we spend faaar more $$ on the select individuals who have "health care" than they spend on people getting better care in universally covered countries.

Plus, we're paying for Iraq and Afghanistan to have coverage. So you need to be in the military, Iraq/Afghanistan, or in Jail, then you get health coverage!

I expect to see lots of this BS in the coming months.

Political fear mongering to scare people into voting one way or the other.

Wonder how much the insurance companies will spend on this propaganda ?

When they should be covering peoples health care claims instead.

Good old capitalism

I dont understand why so many people believe this transparent, fear based, propaganda.

Can someone explain ?

Why do you believe it HuskyMan ?

Or do you spread this BS, because you have ulterior political motives ?

in the past, I've been involved with two patients who were royally screwed by their doctors. in both cases, they came within a hair's breath of DYING due to "Dr. Screwup". and one of the doctors is STILL practicing on the public.

if you go in for surgery, ALWAYS have a family member (preferably a doctor or RN) at your side 24/7. make sure they are 100% aware of your situation, blood type, meds, etc etc and are not afraid to engage nurses and doctors entering your hospital room.

otherwise, you might become a victim of a medical screw up. if I hadn't experienced it first hand, I'd have a far different outlook on the medical establishment, but now I trust them about as far as I can throw them.

Dr. Death
Dr. Drug
Dr. Feel Good (here, take these 20 meds and call me in the morning).
