Credit bureau issues

Does someone here know how to get credit bureaus to clean up bogus dings?

My son lives next door. his address is same as mine except ending in 2 instead of 4. His first name is also same as mine but we have different middle names.

So I find nine or ten dings on my credit for things whch clearly are not mine. In reading through it at the bottom I find they have noted that they have things listed which have an address discrephency but they assume it is me, also they have name discrephencies but they assume it is me. Then most outrageous of all they say that sometimes I use a different soc security number.

How can I get these off my report. is there a way to speak to a human being in this matter?

I wish I could just make ridiculous assumptions and suffer no punishment for it.

Ironically since the bank uses a merge of all three credit reports any erronious on only one or two sites will show up on my son's report and on mine!

Each credit reporting agency has an online application to start a dispute. This is the linke for EQUIFAX. Start a dispute at each credit bureau and for each "ding". Be accurate and detailed with your explanation. Under the US FCRA the other party has 30 days to prove or it goes away. Fairly simple process.
You are entitled to see your report for free 1 time a year from each bureau.
Equifax
Transunion
Experian

They all have web sites.

Probably, as this works the other way as I know from my son.

Hence the knowledge from above post.

Sorry to hear that, TX. My comment was, of course, tongue-in-cheek.

It's amazing how long it takes to "fix" your credit once the damage is done. But my damage was all self-inflicted, I have no one to blame but myself. It's all part of dealing with the consequences of my actions, albeit several years ago.

here's a thought: do the Credit Bureaus send out a representative to speak with you in person in order to VERIFY that their information is 100% accurate?

when one thinks about it, the Credit Bureaus receive ALL of their information THIRD HAND. can you say "hear say"??
they are nothing more than a supercharged rumor mill.....

the only problem is the entire financial world (banks, mortgage lenders, credit card issuers, etc etc). think that credit bureau reports represents the facts as they are written in stone and signed off on by the President of the WORLD.

It is pretty frightening when you think of it that way, and that's pretty much the way it works. Especially for you folks with good credit! Someday I'll have to worry about that.

Everyone should review their credit reports. Think of it as housekeeping. Have found some bizzare things over the years. A home heating propane bill from Michigan - never lived in MI and never heated with propane. How about a state tax bill on property in KS that I had sold five years prior to the year assessed?

So you say I have to file a separate complaint on each incorrect listing?

tom

Yes each problem and to each bureau. This is where cut and paste comes in handy.

Good wishes on clearing it up, Tom.

FYI, though it has been a while since I looked into it, there are some really good credit repair companies out there (some are law firms) that can get your credit whipped back into shape. some of them say they can remove or change all kinds of erroneous/derogatory credit entries.

as everyone from insurance companies to employers are checking credit nowadays, it might be worthwhile to look into it......

PS. I think when someone spreads erroneous information about you in the public realm, they may have opened themselves up to a good libel and slander lawsuit. just my two cents...

You have to challenge EACH bad entry. THEY have 30 days to get it corrected and pulled. Always send mail to them certified .. preferably receipt requested.

You do not need to 'War and Peace' each one either. Simply, this is not mine, please remove it will sure get the ball rolling.
