Unemployed & need a job? Well don't apply here..

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Outofwork-job-applicants-told-cnnm-3498252371.html?x=0

As someone who's unemployment has dried up with still no job prospect. and is pushing the limit on the car payment and other bills being passed due, (yeah it's getting THAT bad) this is very disturbing. Might have to say bye bye to tv & internet to start so if you don't see me here posting, you'll know why..

That's a bunch of crap "due to performance issues "

Who's performance your prior bosses , the government's . What a waste of good labor.
What about the gulf coast unemployed ?? Can they list BP as reason for leaving ??
I thought competence was determined by the job interviewer !
No wonder there's so much incompetence in large corporations with ideas like these !

so what do you do ? mom and pop corps as a step back up , and then do you want to risk working for a large corp again ?

Best of luck in your search.

Wow that is complete bull.

My company closed down last year and I was lucky enough to find a new job right at the end of the first 6 month section of unemployment. Either way that is the point, you don't know why someone is unemployed and they could be great for the position. That is why we have interviews; fricken jerks

Kill the TV but you NEED the internet, it it the way lots of jobs are found now, you HAVE to keep it. AND we don't want to lose your great posts here either.

Keep up with school, and think about consulting, opening a business, maybe on line, and remember the actual job market and what jobs there are is a constantly moving target

They say that in 5 years, many the actual things taught in college will be irrelevant, because nobody now even KNOWS what the actual jobs out there will be.

Stay strong and good luck!!!!

I may just add a wifi card to my cell account. Cheaper than keeping the internet on it's own. And to top it off, I may have to put my dog down. The coughing from the congestive heart failure diagnosis in December has been getting worse, like the meds aren't effective anymore. Beginning to understand how people flip out. This is not where I pictured myself at 43 and it's not from a lack of trying. With all this and how sick I was last month with that stomach thing & how long it took to recover, I feel like my world is crashing down. Sorry for the rant.. If I could only afford a beer....

If you can spell oil you can get a job on the Gulf clean up. The work ain't pretty and it is hot but it pays. I worked 4 years in the Arabian Gulf off shore Iran pumping out war damaged super tankers and I can attest to working with crude in the heat, but if you've got a family to feed and payments to make you do what you have to do.

Actually, I don't think internet is the way to go for jobs. After graduating from graduate school, I applied to countless positions through internet postings. Not even a response from 90% of them (rough guess, probably higher in actuality). Man, that just made me mad. It's like the employers just don't care. The best chance that I had was with following up immediately, getting on the phone and being extremely persistent.

But...this still completely paled in comparison to in person contact. The two jobs I've had out of school have been in this manner - one from prior work and the other from a job fair (that I followed up for 8 months on).

You can always get free internet at a coffee shop and it takes you out of the house...

DSL is usually on sale for $20 or so a month. You do NOT need an active phone line to get DSL either.

Magicjack works great for long distance at ~ $40 for the first YEAR.

What Internet fees? - What TV?

I haven't had Internet fees now going on 2-years.

With my USB booster/ antenna, I pick up WiFi signals up to 1/2 mile line-of-sight in my diesel coach.

Here, in my stick n bricks home about 100 yards from inside the house - no exterior antenna. No home phone either!

I wouldn't waste my time watching TV in the first place, much less satellite dish or cable subscription TV.

Who's with me?!

Did your dealership jobs end because of being downsized several months ago?

Operation Kindness will take your dog - and find it a home.

My older Brother and I brewed and bottled out own beer when we were 17 yr. and 18 yrs. old in the basement in 10 gallon crocks. Not too hard to do.

I'll admit it's rough out there - perhaps not a good time to be looking for work in almost ANY industry.

So, so much overcapacity of everything, that the competition is fierce for everything these days!

Scrape your last $$ together and take a 40hr HAZWOPER (Google that) class then go to the Gulf Coast and make bank.

Using another person's wifi is illegal and is known as theft of service. This is a case in Michigan.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/ip-telephony/michigan-man-busted-for-stealing-wi-fi-signal-could-have-received-five-years/1640

Then again I am guilty of that as well Still though, I own a smartphone with web access so it's kind of pointless.

On a side note however,
I ran an open access point for a while at school sent through a proxy server. I could sniff out any and all data that was sent through including email. Most websites that aren't using https also send out user name and passwords in plain text or trivial encryption.

I could also see who was a frequent connector with the MAC address. It's not safe to use unencrypted wifi since anyone with the right software can play man-in-the-middle with your wireless signal.

Did I actually do this? Nah, I was doing a service for the fellow students of my dorm. However don't think for a second it isn't happening in major cities, airports, or even random places out in the sticks.
