Airline food 'putting passengers at risk'
Now I know for sure that I will never eat on a plane ever again
Airline food 'putting passengers at risk' The companies who supply in-flight food to most of the major US airlines are risking passengers' safety because of how the food is prepared, according to a new report. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found problems including cockroaches, rats and poor hygiene among workers at the three companies who provide food to Delta, American, United, Continental, US Airways and more. The working conditions at LSG Sky Chefs, Gate Gourmet and Flying Food Group could lead to food poisoning outbreaks on flights, reports USA Today. The companies operate 91 kitchens and together supply more than 100 million meals every year. Roy Costa, a consultant and public health sanitarian, told the paper: "In spite of best efforts by the FDA and industry, the situation with in-flight catered foods is disturbing, getting worse and now poses a real risk of illness and injury to tens of thousands of airline passengers on a daily basis." A representative from one of the companies involved - Gate Gourmet - said that the findings would be taken 'very seriously'. It is much better traveling with your Benz

Mmmm...makes me appreciate the bags of pretzels and peanuts they usually hand out. Flying Southwest is practically a treat with those Ritz cheese crackers.
Maybe that report of a passenger's maggot infested meat that brought the US Airlines plane back to the gate wasn't some old meat brought on a plane, it was an in-flight meal.

Must be why Dr Hannibal Lecter brought his own food in Hannibal. Prepared by Dean an Deluca. Except for the "special part".

The last time I had "actual" food on a flight was when United had their TED brand years ago. They offered sammiches and salads and the like. The couple of times I flew it I thought they were pretty good. They had one of those bar trivia-type games on all of the seatbacks where you could play against the other passengers on the flight.

me too, and I work in aviation. As far as food goes, I cant remember when I have been given anything other than bagged snacks. I bring my own stuff anyway, if it is a long flight.

Don't know that it's any safer, but it's always hotter and prettier..... by pre-ordering a vegetarian meal, I generally get best available and on most airlines get fed first .
Absolute best food is on Cathay Pacific - excellent every single time. Malaysian Air is usually quite good. Flew Qatar Airways last time, and their food was ok-ish. US airlines are consistently pretty dang bad to just plain awful. Especially love it when they're bringing the little sandwich bag lunches around and I ask for my vegetarian meal - and they say "you can take the ham off one of the sandwiches." Right - and have a pig juice tainted chunk of stale white bread for lunch - no thanks!

The airline food providers should write a book & call it 1,001 ways to recycle effluent. Its just a good way to make yourself sick.
