For W124 owners...My new site /w DIY's/Manual/Photos

Just wanted to announce my new and updated w124 site...I have the factory service manual available and a bunch of great information for repairs and DIY's. Contribution is more than welcome.

www.ps2cho.net edit: www.W124-Zone.com takes effect in 24hours.

I would love if anybody could add their w124 to my photo gallery so we can all show off what great cars we have!

The site is here to stay for many, many years. I find that the 'photo' threads are great and all, but are difficult to browse through and you could spend hours. This photo gallery will allow fast images and a huge collection.
I am currently uploading all the ones that I have.

I am slowing adding more DIY's and other information, so stay tuned Hoping to give back to the community as I have been helped a lot during the past few years saving me more money than could be thought of. And more headaches too of course

Enjoy!

OK, ps2cho.

First question, since this isn't worthy of a DIYer posting.
Two weeks ago I ordered a replacement air hose for an 88 M103 from Phil. It came and I put it in between the air scoop and the air filter housing. My question is this. My old "collar" which attaches to the air filter unit had a little plastic plug in the hole which is on the outboard side of the collar in the ceter of a raised round portion. The new one didn't come with one. So, I popped the old one out and before I put it back in the new hose, I am wondering about the need to do so.

My edumacated guess is that this "plug" and hole serve to provide a little warmer air ferom the engine compartment in colder climates? Or does it serve some completely different purpose, unrelated to intake air temps? Here (in NJ), the car ran fine with the plug in the old one, and it runs fine without the plug in the new one. Can't imagine it makes a dimes worth of difference, but I'm more curious than anything.

As a DIYer, I make a fine accountant.

Good luck with site. I'm sure you are familiar with the 300CE owners roll call thread here on the OD, yes? Lots of good looking cars there.

I believe on later models they had an air temp sensor. Maybe someone swapped in the wrong one by accident in the past?

You don't want any hot air going into that intake, so sounds like a win although like you said, in reality wouldn't have made any difference at all by the sounds of it. Hot air = less combustion...Hence why people put on 'cold air intakes'. We have one from stock...so all good

I will pop the plug in. Phil did say that the part was the oem replacement for an M103.098. It had the identical part number as the old and came with the MB part sticker on it. Your explanation of the temp sensor makes sense, but would also seem to indicate forward enginnering in parts, if it wasn't available on the M103 to begin with.

Anyway, with the new air hose in place, the operating temperature dropped significantly. The old hose was really shot! At operating temps and speed here, now, the coolant temp hangs right at the top of the 8 at 80c. It approaches the 100c level when in stop & go or stopped. Only once went above 100c, when the water pump went last Christmas Eve!

I have decided to change the domain name to W124-Zone.com
I think it is more in-tune with where I want the site to go long-term...and I was not expecting the # of unique visits I was expecting! A nice surprise!

Should take effect within 24hours and all prior bookmarks should still function perfectly fine, so don't worry. Let me know if anything does not work the same.

What do ya guys think ? I'm not that great at web development, but I figure a proper domain name seems the right path to take!

I could make a classified's sections maybe where you could advertise W124 parts/cars for sale? I'll have to look into the best option for this. Let me do some thinking Thanks for the suggestion!
