Calling all Home HVAC Gurus!
I have a quick and dirty question about a funace upgrade I am contemplating. First off, it looks like the furnace is circa 1986; the house is two story, with a third floor attic (attic does not have ductwork). It has air conditioning. In the winter, the heat blows just fine, heats the whole house with ease. Regarding the air conditioning, the downstairs stay pretty nice, but the upstairs AC is barely adequate (I have "upgraded" on of the upstairs windows with a window air conditioner). I have adjusted the downstairs ductwork to push less air, while opening the upstairs more. I don't plan on replacing the furnace anytime soon (not exactly the same house I want to be in for more than 10 years or so). Ultimately, would it be out of the question to simply install a more powerful blower motor in the furnace to send more air upstairs, or would this be a bad idea for reasons I am not seeing (aside from a higher electric bill). I'm sure people in the biz hear this all the time. Any advise would be helpful. Thank you so much!

I would investigate and see if you have extra heat load on upper floor. How is the insuation up there? Any above the second floor? What shape are the windows in? Is there a high mounted main return air duct on the second floor or does all heat go up there and stay?

Are you sure it is an airflow issue? May be an insulation or load issue.
You might try a booster fan placed into a duct or those powered booster vent covers.
