I travel to D.C. on business only once or twice / year, and I've noticed that the hotels in good areas of D.C. are incredibly expensive.

You might consider staying at a hotel that is a short ride on the METRO train from D.C., like Crystal City.

actually priceline got me something for $70 a night.. The L'Enfant Plaza which is right next to the National Mall.. well.. a block away.

add in $30 a day for protected valet with in and out privlages, an exectutive king with breakfast, high speed internet, and bathrobes.. I think thats pretty good

Yes that's a decent place. The block to the mall is *very* long. If you like fresh seafood, walk down the hill and across Maine Ave. to the fish market. You can get fresh shucked oysters and fried fish fillets.

Get someplace close to a Metro station. I stayed at the Marriott in Crystal City, VA and having the metro station a short walk from the lobby was great.

I'm not into seafood. All I know is the Smithsonian is right there and I'm going to it.

X2 on the metro and crystal city. When you look into the hotel closer check on the distance to the nearest metro station.

We were there in april. What was nice about the metro is that you can buy a pas and load it with what ever dollar amount you needed. slide the card and you get into the train.

You and the rest of the world....
The Air & Space Museum is the most popular destination in the District.....by faaaarrr! If you like fast food, there are McDonalds and BK (I think) at one end of the building!

"To Fly" is a movie worth seeing...xtra cost, but there's a reason it's been showing since 1976.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Fly!

Tourist tip: The National Gallery is right across the Mall. Less crowded.
The National Archives is very interesting and it has the Dec. of Independence and the Constution on view. But it takes forever to get through the metal detectors. On a hot day, it would be miserable.

That's a prime spot for Smithsonian. L'Enfant has it's own Metro stop, too. And if you find the Arts & Industries Building on the Mall in front of the carousel, my office was up in one of those towers. The McDonald's at Air & Space is supposedly the world's busiest (not a bad thing, just trivia). If you want to go where O went for lunch, visit Ray's Hell Burger, a short trip out to Arlington VA.

Needless to say bring comfortable walking shoes and bottles of water.

Hotel at the end of the Yellow Line

I forget the name but it is at the end of the Yellow Line. You can park there for free and walk to the Metro that will take you downtown.

It is a 'Days Inn'-class hotel.

Don't miss the Holocaust Museum while you're there. And don't forget your hankie when you go into the room where you can sit and listen to recordings of survivors.

Me and the kids stayed at the Residence Inn/DuPont Circle the last time we were in DC. Free breakfast and a two block walk to the Metro. Nothing fancy, just clean and cheap. Secure, indoor parking was $23 per day.

LeFant Plaza is best pricewise. You get to see Smitsonian, Air and space and museums and other places of interest within walking distance etc. Metro is a short walking distance too.

Crystal city is also good but you get the hassle of metro commute break downs, shut downs etc...

This is my opinion and I could be wrong.
