Thankfully they were gainfully employed for those several weeks!

Shouldn't they have waited until 2019 to publish this article?

785 out of 35000 is pretty good odds. I did my census over the phone.

If I understood the judge correctly I too have a criminal record for doing 44mph in a 30mph.

I will need to look into that when I look for a job.

Assuming this is true for a moment, it would seem not all records are created equal.

You can avoid having someone come knocking on your door by filling out the form and mailing it back in.

I did the census surveys back in 2000. Made some good cash for a few weeks.

I wish these articles would tell us what the crimes were.

Petty theft, arson, rape, grand theft, larceny, possession,?

I wouldn't mind some guy with a possession or petty theft record.

Now arson... :p

I am not surprised by that report one bit, they canvassed my local subway sandwich shop (among other businesses) with flyers saying they'd basically take any and all applicants.

According to a report issued by the Government Accountability Office Oct. 7, approximately 785 employees with disqualifying criminal records could still end up working for the Census Bureau this year.

…we estimate that approximately 785 employees with unclassifiable prints could have disqualifying criminal records but still end up working for the Bureau

Well, it won't make for as sexy a story, now would it? Remember what happened after Hurricane Katrina? The oil companies made "record profits". That phrase was so used that people on the street were repeating it. When I asked what the definition of "record profit" is, nobody could properly explain it. Best they knew was how much the profit was. When I asked what the percentage profit was or how much was spent to make that 10 billion dollars, nobody could give me more than a SWAG. The story on the paper showed the profit it made on page 1, story continues on page X and there, right at the last paragraph was an "Oh, BTW, they spent 40 billion".

Hmm, what was the percentage of felons that the US military was accepting due to recruiting quotas . . . I think they were doubling the amount, but that story was so long ago, like 2005, 2007 or 2008, seems to me.

Hey! Don't discount the powerful effect that a government internship has on a person's resume.
