I am not close enough to the situation to judge whether these people should build this community center/mosque, but they have already performed something of a public service. They remind us how many Americans are willing to abandon core American values to oppose things they find personally offensive. Although we already knew that to be the case, it's good to be reminded now and then.

X2. they aren't building a baptist church for Sunday worship. this is a religion of hate and intolerance.

funny, shortly after 9/11 I saw a TV special with Barbara Walters. She was interviewing a family of muslims in Pakistan. The father stated that he definitely would like for his children to attend American Universities because "they are the best colleges in the world".

BUT, he said they had decided to put their college plans on hold because they had decided to wage Jihad (holy war) against America. the cameraman then walked outside to where a group of young Pakistanis were standing. these youngsters were firing AK47's into the air while shouting, "DEATH TO AMERICA, DEATH TO THE EVIL ONEs, etc etc.".

the interview bordered on being comical, he wants his children to come here to attend our colleges but FIRST THINGS FIRST, we gots to wage holy war against those evil Americans.

I find the ideals of Pat Roberts offensive. Does that apply to all christans? I am guessing not. WGAS?

If they are breaking any laws then it needs to be dealt with. Other than that you just need to deal with it.

It's very simple; you either let anyone build a religious facility in the area, you allow no-one to build a religious facility in the area, or you amend the constitution.

The United States hasnt had a President that is showing this much finesse since J.F.K. during the Cuban missile crisis. He is demonstrating that he understands his enemy, and has strategy's in place to deal with them , that do not include war. ie: Obama is sending a message to bin Laden that Americans do not hate Islam. As long as bin Laden uses Americans hatred for Islam to carry out its agenda(Terrorists) ...he wins. After-all...what did Bush's approach to terrorist's acheive?

The issue is not a Constitutional one--they have "the Right".
We also have "the Right" to voice our opposition. There is no roll here for the President. It is a local issue and the local people deserve to be heard.
Similarly, a church may be erected wherever they choose and wherever zoning laws permit. There is no guarantee that a congregation may build "anywhere".

It would be equally wrong for a President to intrude and "allow" a Baptist church to be built in the middle of an Islamic enclave like Dearborn. It is simply none of his business.

Sensitivity works both ways if it is to be a government policy.

There really was no hatred towards Islam until Bin laden and friends started doing the things they did. So now we should signal that everything's cool and their mass murder and destruction in the name of Allah was justified. OK. Given the situation, maybe they could have called it their friendship center or center for international understanding, an olive branch as it were. But its just another monument to their closed community. This 15 story mosque/facility will only draw more of their hateful throngs to the place where the evil infidels were brought to their knees for the first time in centuries.

Mind you it wasn't just 12 guys that hijacked airplanes; there were dozens of people involved along the way who had either direct knowledge or good reasons for suspicion. Nobody said a word.

What they are teaching young Muslims in this country behind closed doors should concern more people than it apparently does.

Personally, I'm more concerned about what young christians are being taught (by the type of people who are protesting in NYC). I either case, feel free to try to get the first amendment amended to favor specific religions and deny right to other religions; good luck with that.

this isn't a discussion concerning "religious freedoms". it is a discussion concerning a cult that promotes and teaches "death and destruction to the infidels". Pakistani Muslim children firing AK47s into the air while shouting, "Death to America, Death to the Evil ones".

I don't see children standing on the front lawns of America's churches firing AK47's into the air looking to "wage Jihad". Jihad is beyond religion. Jihad is a formal DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST THE UNITED STATES. 9/11 was a sneak attack in the finest tradition of Jihad. the reward for their sacrifice is 70 virgins. it appears they feel 9/11 was a success.

either we are going to continue playing footsie with the enemy or we are going to put a stop to it. I predict the kissy face/footsie playing will continue.

The muslim faction in this country is looking to infiltrate the very fabric of our culture. they are doing this by electing politicians favorable to their cause, teaching their beliefs and ideologies to children and by building mosques in the heart of America.

Allowing a mosque to be built in the heart of NYC is a direct affront and insult to every firefighter, policemen, civilian who worked to save victims of 9/11. It is especially humiliating to every soldier that has served or is serving in Afganistan/Iraq.

THEY ARE LOOKING TO TAKE OVER and as long as we continue to be "sensitive to their cause" they will keep coming at us like a freight train. No wonder they think of us as "Those Stupid Americans".
