The 'affects' of drinking too much

I have often pondered if depression causes drinking or if drinking causes depression, hence my use of the word 'affect' as in, cause and 'affect'. Any members, like the clk man, who'd like to weigh in and crunch the scales on this thought is much appreciated because I think I may be suffering from drinking and would like to try depression.

Alcohol is a known depressant as it's major effects is to slow and retard the functions of the nervous system.

well, having been a drunkard, i can state that drinking was more of a stress reliever. sadly, the next morning, the stress seemed worse, perhaps because of the depressive effects of the alcohol? anyway, i certainly don't know your situation, nor would i try to give you any advice.

Depressant doesn't mean it will "depress" you emotionally. Betablockers and antihistamines are depressants too. In fact alcohol is known to produce euphoric effects otherwise people wouldn't drink it. It removes inhibitions obviously so I figure it will stop people's natural tendency to avoid thinking and talking about their problems. If you are not in a good mental state obviously drinking won't help

Only initially and at low doses does alcohol exhibit "stimulant" effects.

Alcohol just amplifies your current state of mind. If your a miserable cranky SOB you will be more of a miserable cranky SOB. If your in a good mood you will be a happy drunk.

Maybee ask a freind or trusted family member to give you a straight answer as to how other people percieve you,,both when sober...and drunk/drinking. If they say there is a drastic differance...chances are you may want to re-assess your situation.

I've seen cmitch drunk on several occasions and it's not a pretty site. Every time he gets drunk, he keeps trying to grab my ass.
