Newest addition to the family

She is less than a year old according to the vet. Some friends sound her. They checked all the local vets, pound... etc to find a owner but no luck. We said we would take her if they could not keep her.

Her name is Penny. We are told she is mainly a Min-Pin with some Chihuahua mixed in. I looked up Min-Pins on line and she does not look like them to me but what ever. She like to harass the cats but is doing it less and less (we have ad her 2 days now). I squirt her with the water bottle each time she goes after the cats. She is submissive to me. When I tell her no, she runs to the couch and rolls on her back. I'm told that's a good thing since she knows Im the pack leader. According to the description she could have small dog syndrome and that needs to be controlled through training.

That breed looks funny without the ears and tail cropped.

Inquisitive? That's an understatement. She is getting better day by day. When she got here she would go nuts when she saw a cat. Now she is still curious and her ears pop up but she is not as nuts. She will chase them but not the same way.

I have never been a proponent of docking. I do not know if it is a health issue or not (need to research that) but if it is not, I see no reason to subject a animal to that purely for atheistic reasons. I have never had an dog that was docked so to me it looks quite natural. I am somewhat concerned she will take flight in a stiff breeze though

She seems to learn well. She is getting better on a lead and she understands the word 'no'. We are having to say it quite offten, hopefully she will not think it is her name

Yes she is. She has no idea that she is only 4.1 lbs. She has no idea that our youngest cat out weights her by over 3 lbs. She sees a cat and the ears go up and she goes into that Dobi stance with the hind legs back a bit and the tail straight up. She does not seem to be aggressive so much as curious and playful. So far none of the cats have decided to smack her down. I'm waiting for my 17lb Main Coon to get fed up and just sit on the dog.

I love that Dobie stance! She really does look like she is ready for anything!

My friend has a Yorkie and two cats that are bigger than the dog. The dog still goes after them, but one HISSSS and he backs down! He has learned the hard way that the hiss is followed by the claws!

The only reason I would ever dock a dog is if their tail gets in the way. My ex brother in law always had rescue Greyhounds. One dog's tail was so long that she kept getting it caught in things and it was always being rubbed raw. They docked her tail and she was much happier.
It did take a long time for her to stop wondering what had happened to it though

We had one of those mini dogs last year and she drove us crazy, she insisted on sitting on my head, I would give her rib bones and she would go and hide them, we gave her to our daughter and she still has her. We found rib bones for months after that hidden everywhere.
