New family (dog) addition

I saw this fella a few months ago by my hobby shop and he looked pretty big and healthy so I suspected that he belonged to someone at the warehouses. I then saw him about two months ago and he looked quite skinny. I fed him and then went to get a leash so that I could take him in but he was long gone.

Yesterday I stopped by the shop and there was a pack of dogs playing around some sprinklers and he was one of them. As I still had some treats in the car, I got out and approached him and gave him some food. One of the dogs had a tag so I called the number and spoke to a lady who told me that the tagged dog was a yard dog of sort who would normally get out and bring strays back with him.

He turned up with the big guy a couple of weeks ago but he does not belong to them and he comes and goes. I went to get he leash from the shop but they were long gone.

This morning I got a call from the lady who told me that both dogs were back at the yard and if I wanted to pick him up, to come and get him.

I picked him up and took him straight to the vet. He was heart worm -ve which means that he was somebody's dog at least 6 months ago. But he was covered in fleas and ticks. They gave him vaccinations, de-worming and flea medication and are keeping him over night so that they make sure all of the parasites are off him so that he does not introduce anything to my other dogs.

This is pretty much how I got my other dog Billy. It should be fun having another big fella in the house.

They are the best dogs. I am convinced that rescue animals some how know what the deal is. All of our animals are street rescues and they are all grateful as far as I can tell.

He looks like a handsome boy. Put some meat on his bones and I would bet he will be your friend for life.

I'm glad you gave him a good home. We just found a dog as well, although your dog probably can lay a turd that is bigger than mine.

Believe it or not, this fella is about 2 years old and even in the shape that he's in, he weighed in at a whopping 76lbs! I look forward to bringing him back to health.

The Nugness sympathizes with your dog and wants to help. I give The Nugness $1 a week in allowance, The Nugness said that he would give up one year of his allowance to help your hungry dog.

Luckily, he does not have heart worm. My other stray Billy did and it was very expensive and risky to have him treated.

The dogs must be kept calm at all times during the first two weeks after the treatment as even the smallest activity could kill them.

This big guy will be fine, he just needs a little TLC.

Yup, rescues are the best. Of course, I wound up with an Akita/lab cross, Aussie/Rott cross, Aussie/lab/hound??? mutt and a nearly purebred Great Pyrenees. All are incredibly great dogs, especially with the kids.
That guy looks like a red Rott or maybe a boxer cross- Any thoughts as to his breeding?

I think that given that he's 76lbs in that shape I suspect that he is a Mastiff mix.
