By the way...

I think the French rifle advertised here was somewhat of a flop with the troops. The magazine was open so you could see how many rounds you had left, but this allowed mud to get in there and clog up the works.

Wasn't that the French gun that was so FUBAR that no two guns could interchange parts?

The chauchat was a flop, but worth a few bucks these days like all machine guns.

Ahh the good old days before the stupid 1986 ban.

Yep, remember reading them when I was a kid. My dad bought a US Army 06 Springfield bolt for $25 bucks, restocked it himself using my granddad's lath, and rebarreled it to .270 Winchester. Made one hell of a deer rifle. He still has it. During the '60s modifying them and the surplus Mausers, which were even cheaper, was the rage.
