So I was driving along and.....

talking to the lovely Mrs. W and suddenly I realized that the road was about to disappear into the lake. I thought Holy Crap! I don't have time to stop! Then (hopeful) maybe it is a shallow place and I can drive on through! I look forward and the lake stretches out at least a mile!

Then I woke up.

Thank goodness!

We drove up to Lake Shafer near here last night in the Miata to eat at a restaurant overlooking the lake. It is a dammed river and on the other side is a street that literally disappears into the lake and is now used as a boat ramp in a city park.

Don't you hate it when that happens? Every time that I have a dream like that i'm paranoid the next day and super careful while driving.....

I read last year a German couple driving their new Mercedes Benz with Sat Nav obeyed ( "Vee haff rules..und zhey MUST be obeyed !!!) its instructions and drove right into a clearly visible, lake !!!!

In other news, Jeremy Clarkson has said that all new Mercedes Benz automobiles coming out of the factory in Stuttgart, have all their SAT NAV devices programmed to go to Poland.

There is an old highway in Oklahoma that runs between Tulsa and Cleaveland, OK, which has now been replaced by the Cimmaron Turnpike. A lake, Lake Keystone, was built and when the lake is up it covers a portion of the old highway. This old highway is still in use by the locals since when the lake is down it is still passable.

This section of the road is very dark and people used to drive off into it all the time. The counties' solution was to place a sawhorse type of thing with a sign that says 'High Water' on it next to the road. When the lake is up someone who lives near-by goes out and places the sawhorse across the road.

This has been going on for about 20 years, and no one has driven into the lake since this was started.

Sometime around 1973 I was living in ST Louis and the Missouri and Mississippi rivers both flooded due to one of those 100 year storms. I was showing a visiting friend around and we popped up over a RR crossing and THERE was the river, a full mile from where I expected it. Tires got wet, but nothing worse.

She does it. I am not certain if she just does it to please me or not, but either way it is fun to go scooting around in it.
