not benz but urgent nissan Z24 question.

I changed the oil pump due to odd fluctuations when cold. the pump is driven with the distributor. got it together and it started with a rough idle and stalled. seemed to be misfiring. i tried to retime it to no avail. the engine had compression i could feel until a series of misfires where the starter actually stopped and wouldnt go. now i've got low compression on cylinders 1,2,and 3. an online mechanic who i paid said it may be a jumped timing chain. he says its not an interferance motor but I think if it were just off time i'd still have compression.
It ran fine up until the change and didn't suffer from oil starvation as far as i can tell.
Once again this is the nissan Z24 1986 hardbody.
sorry for the non MB post but I'm kinda desperate at this point.
thanks Chris
