Next time I see a report of a dead drunk being pulled out of a crashed car I will think of this report.

But what sort of life they lead is the question. Kinda like telling me that doing a certain thing will give me a long life. But what are you extending? Instead of spending 5 years in a nursing home before death I now will have 15 years in the nursing home?

But to what end? You will NOT be extending your life with the body of a 20 yo, instead you will spend more time at a nursing home, drooling on yourself.

No nursing homes for me. The money for home care is already being allocated. And as long as I'm drunk, I won't GAS.

But even so, what is the point of extending your life past the point when your body is ready to go? If I can go to 65, I think that would be more than enough for me. Even at 43, I can feel my body isn't what it used to be. When I can't get it up any more, why bother with living?

My recently deceased uncle aside, I've got a long family history of scotch and beer consumption, while remaining active and functional, well into the 80's and even 90's. Hell, my great-grandfather chain-smoked cigars along with his scotch right up until he died at 93. My grandfather, a beer drinker, was boating solo until 84 when he couldn't easily get around the boat anymore (with a prosthetic leg). My father is "only" 66, so I'd definitely want to make it longer than that, probably a decade past that. Of course, I had better get myself into better shape or it'll be a moot point.

Besides, you don't need to be very mobile to get "it" up if that's your criteria for living.

One of the important criteria, yes. If my body degrades to the point where I can't enjoy the current quality of life, it will be time to check out. I want to be independent whether you or someone else gives me money to get care when I cannot. I HATE to have to be dependent on others.
