What do the bouncing balls mean on today's Google home page?

No idea, I even looked for relevant events in history and came up with nothing...today's appears to be color text...

I don't mind their coloring things and what not...(especially because I get to make fun of my mac-lover roommate who can't see this stuff on her google page) but this automatic searching thing is throwing me off.

As soon as I start typing it starts searching, even before I am done putting in what I want to search...
