How often do your really balance your checkbook?

I know a lot of people who do not know how to which is amazing to me.

Amazingly I was one of those people (actually I knew how but just didn't care). But now it's once a month, to the penny.

When I had a separate savings and checking account I did all the time.

When I moved to my new bank which gave me a free brokerage and checking account I just started depositing all of my money into that and stopped worrying about balancing the little checkbook.

My bank's website reports nearly every deposit and withdrawal instantly. I'll just go online and make sure everything evens out with my receipts from my debit and check ledger.

My old credit union took forever to post transactions which was why I kept holding onto the book.

It's probably not good money management, but the amount of checks I write for an entire year can fit onto both of my hands so I'm not too worried. I have yet to overdraft, bounce a check, etc even though I don't have any money right now thanks to a certain silver german car.

You know, I'm bored right now so I'll go and open that savings account.

Depends on how much $$$$ I have. Sometimes every time I write a check, other times once a month or so. I never balance to the penny- I round each check up to the next dollar so I always have more in my account than I think. Last time I checked I had a couple thousand extra because of this.

My parents use to do so religiously. I've never done it once in my life. I just don't need to. Everythings online and I have never had a negative balance in my account ever and never will.

I do it twice a day since it is so easy to check it online for checks that have cleared.

I write very few checks. In fact I just had to order new ones. The last ones I had still had 19__ for the year. I only got 1 box of 150 checks so I should be good for at least another 10 years or more. I have been on line for well over a decade now and I just down load my info to Quicken and track everything in there.

I balance the checkbook about once a week. But I find it more helpful to do a monthly budget.

I never have to balance mine. I just carry it around in my back pocket.

I balance mine regularly, not because of outstanding checks, but because of ATM / POS usage.

Considering that everyone in this thread owns or has access to a relatively modern personal computer with internet access . . . the failure to access the electronic records of nearly everyone's bank is rather sad, particularly when most of those online services are free or included in the service charges for various accounts.

I make sure the checks & debit transactions are logged in my check book compared to the bank statement. To see if I forgot to log something.
But I never recheck my math and my bank has never made a mistake in 20years.....
I just keep too much money in my account to ever bounce a check.
