Disgusted over night prowling theif.

This is never been a problem before but now Ive got a night prowling thief taking my hood stars off my cars .It started last saturday night ,as I arriving home from work that night I heard someone walking through my side yard ,krunching thru the woods to the busy street beyond .I then called a friend of mine who was on his way to my home and asked if he would look out for someone walking or riding a bike on the road out front of the property.Sure enough he called back a minute later and described a young man on a bike, riding this dangerous stretch of road (,due to no shoulder) .I then started walking the property and discovered one of the mb pieces missing .Fastforward to this Saturday ,same scene different car.I spotted the guy this time riding the same bike so now I have a good look at my star stealer and his MO ,EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT.So far Ive put up 2 scensor lights and installed a video camera also .All were not too pricey ,around $80 for everything .I could take one of the censor lights and run it into the woods and put the camera on a timer for capturing the crook ,but it woudnt end in the arrest of the guy ,he must be caught on camera then I have somekind of evidence.

theft

Open the hood and wire the emblem to the car. It will hold and not show and maybe set off the alarm. I have twharted the theft of many hood emblems on my car this way.

You could also put a removeble emblem in their and take it off when parked for the night.

Would the police help you with a stake out? If you knew when it happened and knew his escape route, he could be stopped by the police and questioned, searched. They might work with you. They have powder that can be put on stuff that would show up on his hands. I would pay them a visit and get them involved. Lay low in the meantime.

^ Good luck with that. Most PD's are strapped for funds and personnel. I doubt it would be pragmatic to have stake out squad to catch petty (a star runs about $20) thieves.

But good, luck.

I do have an old igloo doghouse I could put on the side of the yard were he enters from ,then cable a large chain that sets inside to appear that a large dog is present, the scensor light would make it visable and hopefully he would catch on that Im wise to his theivery.

Maybe, maybe not. If there has been a string of vandalism, they may be waiting for a chance to catch the guy. You never know. Depends on the size of the community. The police have helped me with a couple of situations over the past few years at work. I did all of the leg work and setup with their guidance. Once I had the evidence, they nailed the several individuals that were stealing.

Know anyone that would rent you their Rottweiler for a few days? That would be fun to watch and nothing illegal about it. Just post a "Beware of Dog" sign.

I believe there's a post in the DIY section related to star thieves...

Thankfully I never had any problems in the past with the 300E and doubt I'll have too many issues since my neighbors are both police officers and their well marked police vehicles are parked in the driveway about 3 feet from my vehicles...

Can you wire your hood star to a battery so he gets a nice shock next time?

If you post a "beware of dog" sign it means you KNOW your dog is dangerous and may be liable for damages.

Not completely true. As long as I posted a no trespassing and a beware of dog sign I was in the clear as far as the police were concerned.(PA)

Now a blood sucking ambulance chasing personal injury lawyer might think otherwise though...........

A better sign would be " Beaware of Killer A@@ H073 owner" .

Or "We shoot every third theif, the second one just left".

Most PD`s may be straped for funds, but they have no trouble on a speed trap stake out, that is a cash cow for the City/County`s piggy banks.

But to help out on petty thevery? are you kidding?
