So stupid: left oil filler cap off
I left the oil filler cap off of the valve cover. Came out yesterday morning to a nice amount of oil underneath my car.
Oil level was down a bit thank god my blowby isn't bad. I just dirtied my engine and now my hoodpad is sagging from being oil drenched :( |
oh well, you needed to change the oil and install a new hood pad anyway. sorry to hear about this, proves once again, we aren't perfect and things happen. however, it pays to check and double check the engine compartment before closing the hood.
don't be too hard on yourself though, at least the engine is intact and this is a fixable mistake. |
Don't feel so bad. Once I gassed up in SC off I-95 on the Harley. You guessed it . Rode off and left the cap on top of the pump. Got a block down the road and stopped at a red light and smelled gas! UH OH! Gas splashed over tank and gas guage. Didn't damage the paint, but put bubbles in the plastic guage lens.
Thankfully I noticed it before............ |
I left it off once and drove from Detroit to Kalamazoo....about 2 plus hours... no worries about getting rust in the engine compartment. It was about a half quart below the add mark IIRC.
doh! (It's better than leaving off the drain plug.....I've done that too but never driven with that one off, just oiled my shoes a bit).;) |
