TV Drug Sting: Police seizing vehicles for minor drug offences
I watched a cops re-run today and the police were doing drug sting. They took over a known dealer's house and proceeded to bust people as they stopped to buy small amounts of marijuana. For $10-$20 dollars worth of pot, they were getting rammed by police, forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint and screamed at/arrested like they were violent criminals. To top it all off they were telling each person their vehicle will be seized because it was used in the commission of a crime, and they could buy it back at auction.
I found it a disgusting abuse of power, and I've never smoked anything my entire life.

Yup -Certain states the cops can still get away with all kinds of stuff or attemt to under the premise of building an "impressive arrest record"--like tacking a felony on some PERSON and ruining their life for a seed on the floor of their car. Thats a vestage of Republican-Tough on crime/drug war that Really needs to end.

The main reason I think of is them deciding its a Go Deal to pull over the kid in the primerd chevy 2 door and treat him as some Thing to be processed -its ok to ruin someones life -or attempt to-because of what certain people are driving down the road---THAT creates INTENSE HATERED that does not go away even when that kid switches to some other car or when they grow older.

Well here in IL there is a suburb that can impound (not take) your vehicle for being to loud, stereo or exhaust. Which means 500ish dollars of impound/storage fees.
Then the woman who was busted for DUI, the cops gave her BF the keys (he crashed and killed her kid, but that isn't the point here) she got dinged for a 500 $ impound fee. The city attorney says well it's not really an impound fee it's to get the punishment issue across HUH Kind of like I've thought about, there was noise about a senate/congress committee hearing on all these air line fees. I never saw it, don't know if it occurred etc. How about a senate/congress committee hearing about all these fees the government is dinging us with. They tax our phone, cable, electricity, everytime I turn around there is some new government fee, but remember they won't raise our taxes.

How so? They were charged and punished according to the law. If they were summarily executed, I can understand. What does that have to do with anything?

Seems like cops are split 50/50 between kids that got bullied in school and grew up with a vendetta against society, and those who just want to help keep people safe. In some areas its probably not so evenly 50/50 though.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Drugs History This section requires expansion. Main article: History of United States drug prohibition Although Nixon popularized the term "War on Drugs" when he first used it in 1971, the policies that his administration implemented as part of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 were a continuation of drug prohibition policies in the U.S. which stretched back to the year 1914.[4][5][6] The first U.S. law which restricted the distribution and use of certain drugs was the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act of 1914. In 1919 the United States National Prohibition Act prohibited the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol for consumption on a national level. In 1930, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics was created. In 1935 the president Franklin D. Roosevelt, public supported the adoption of the uniform drug act. New York Times used the head line ROOSEVELT ASKS NARCOTIC WAR AID[8][9] In 1937, the Marijuana Transfer Tax Act was passed. In 1936 the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN) noticed an increase of reports of people smoking marijuana, which further increased in 1937. The Bureau drafted a legislative plan for Congress, seeking a new law that would place marijuana and its distribution directly under federal control, and the head of the FBN, Harry J. Anslinger, ran a campaign against marijuana.[10][non-primary source needed] The reasons that hemp was restricted under this law are disputed.[citation needed] The FBN's agents reported that fields with hemp were also used as a source for marijuana dealers.[11] Several scholars have claimed that the goal was to destroy the hemp industry,[12][13][14] largely as an effort of businessmen Andrew Mellon, Randolph Hearst, and the Du Pont family.[12][14] With the invention of the decorticator, hemp became a very cheap substitute for the paper pulp that was used in the newspaper industry.[12][15] Hearst felt that this was a threat to his extensive timber holdings. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury and the wealthiest man in America, had invested heavily in the Du Pont families new synthetic fiber, nylon, which was also being outcompeted by hemp.[12] In 1970, the Nixon administration implemented the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970. In 1973, the Drug Enforcement Administration was created to replace the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. As early as 1982, Vice President George H.W. Bush and his aides began pushing for the involvement of the CIA and U.S. military in drug interdiction efforts.[16] In 1988 Ronald Reagan created the Office of National Drug Control Policy for central coordination of drug-related legislative, security, diplomatic, research and health policy throughout the government. The director of ONDCP is commonly known as the Drug Czar. The position was raised to cabinet-level status by Bill Clinton in 1993.

http://www.ww4report.com/node/7018 When President Bill Clinton took office in 1993, he appointed John Walters as acting director and reduced the ONDCP staff from 146 to 25 employees. Walters eventually resigned. Clinton later elevated the directorship of the ONDCP to a presidential cabinet position, and he appointed former police chief Lee Brown to fill the position. In January 1996 Clinton seemingly reversed his policy, increasing the ONDCP budget and staff. He also appointed Barry McCaffrey to replace Brown. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1355/is_n3_v84/ai_13827515/?tag=content;col1 "He's got the vision to see conditions clearly and the courage to change what doesn't work," said Clinton, who recently elevated the office of the drug czar to Cabinet-level status. "Most importantly, he gets results. And this is exactly what we need in the war against drugs."

Back 'in the day', before Marijhuana became commercialised,If a drug transaction was being made.. a citizen(seller) had the right to ask the buyer they really didnt know very well if: "Are you in any way connected, or affiliated with any federal or local law Enforcement Agency?"..And if the person being quizzed was a cop, he had to answer the question 'yes'..or 'no'..If the cop answered 'no', and he did indeed go ahead with an arrest..the case would be thrown out in a Court of Law, being considered 'Entrapment'.
But Pot only cost $10.00 an ounce at that time. And in Ann Arbor Michigan the fine was only $5.00 if you were busted with under an ounce of weed. |
