Anyone ever done business with Fred Baker?
I was looking at an auction and signed up to bid by phone after viewing the merchandise, some of which was good, some questionable.
DAW, you will be sad to discover that your split valve cover OM 636 MB engine is not as rare as you thought. One with a rebuilt top end on a stand went for 550.00! Curiously enoyugh the engine was "locked from being in storage" but very clean. HMMMM. maybe somebody got the timing wrong? I was pricing M136 flat head MB engines for a friend, they had some but the photos showed more dilapidated engines that were incomplete, yet the description said they were complete. I aclled Fred, told him I was looking at the photos and wanted to know if they were the ones matching the description. "Oh yeah, well they are complete, I think, except for intake and exhaust manifolds and carb." Ditto with other items. Either the auction house is a little sloppy or the guy is not totally on the up and up. I can't say that it was a lack of technical competence, because I heard previously from him was how long he had been in this business, bla bla bla. I escaped unscathed and so did my friend, but I want to know if ayone else knows this guy. Is he a real player in the game, or just someone who had some parts?
