Hershey Week!!!
This is it--the greatest antique car flea market and car show in the world begins at Hershey, PA today. I'll be walking the vendor isles ( some 20,000+ spaces), car corral and show field thru Saturday. Important stuff!!
No time for posting to silly political discussions--not to mention no wireless connections, at least there were none last year. If anyone plans to be in the area, I set up my camper in the field across from the Derry American Legion. Ford F250 and a wilderness 5th wheel. Come over and we'll sit around the campfire and share a beer in the evening.

You NEED to make it to one of the peachparts meets first before you're allowed to go to Hershey

It rained Monday, which helped the creeks. Actaully, I heard it raised Penns by a foot. It was still very low. I went up on Wensday, and stayed the night. It rained from 12 midnight to after I left at 3 pm. I think at least 2 inches. The stream was at normal then, but a bit off. It hadn't crested yet. I only managed one small trout. I had four others on the line though. I have never made it to Hersey for the car show. I might have to do that sometime. I have made Carlise a few times. You never know what will show up. Tom |

That is how Carlisle all started... The 2 guys who eventually started Carlisle, wanted to show their Corvette at Hershey. That was around 1970 or so, and NO Corvette was old enough for AACA ( 25 years). So the 2 guys ( Bud and Butch Miller, IIRC) didn't get a court order, but in the bets American entrepreneurial spirit started their own event, specializing in post WW2 cars. Its a great America success story.

IT WAS A GREAT WEEK!!!!
A little rain on Wed and Wed evening, but then clear and sunny. Each year it seems like some cars are over-represented--this year, it seemed like there were more post war to 1960 Dodge/ DeSoto products than I remember seeing before. Also many more Business Coupes of all makes, and finally a (relatively) great number of Packard 120 models--very few of the Packard Senior series', but a lot of the 30-40s 120s. My knees ache, and my feet are sore, but it was a great week. The invitation is always open--if some of you want to try for next year. If too many show up, the sleeping arrangements might get dicey, but we'll manage somehow. Now, back to mindless political ranting.......

Pictures fail to do justice to the shear size. Here is an aerial photo from 2008. The problem is that they took the photo on Saturday to show the car show field ( nearest to the camera), but MANY of the vendors had packed up and left due to the rains. The vendors extend from the road nearest to the camera on the perimeter of the Giant Center, all the way to the Hershey stadium in the middle of the shot. The Car Corral occupies the perimeter roadway around the Giant Center, and down under the underpass to the left, as well as a few hundred spaces to the right of the Giant Center.
http://hersheyaaca.org/images/arialphotos/2008.pdf My pictures are mostly of hood ornaments. A few Mercedes were present. I saw a couple of SLs, late models all the way back to the Gull wing era. A 6.3 "factory hot rod", and couple of W123 and W126, gas and diesels. I like the plaque on the Auburn that certified that the vehicle had been driven in excess of 100.1 mph before being shipped. Every year, about midday Friday, I realize that (again) I will not see "everything". Kind of depressing, except that there is so much to see. Then its time to pack up, drive home and wait for Spring Carlisle to begin the season, again.
