Need tips on securing/alarming a garage

Some got into my garage last night, and DESTROYED the interior of my car, while trying to steal my $75 stereo. I'm thinking of getting a motion sensing alarm. Does anyone know how loud 120db is? Loud enough for neighbors to hear and scare the @$$holes away from my garage? This is in addition to installing lock and such, which it currently doesn't have.

Someone trashed my Cabrio last week over a 10 year old Pioneer deck and drilled two holes in my gas tank and got... 1/2 a gallon of fuel. I feel your pain. My car was outside though because I'm dumb. I've since padlocked my garage door shut.

Friend of mine put a motion sensor on his boat lift, wired to the house. No alarm outside, just a warning light and a quiet buzzer near his bed so he could call the cops and the thieves wouldnt know they'd been seen.

How did they get in? You need to fix the access points first. If their are windows plant roses or something else thorny in front of them, etc.

Yep. I'm fixing all access points. If they get thorough that (they will need to be quite agressive), a very loud alarm will be sounding.

You just need to make your garage harder to get into than your neighbors. Criminals are lazy, they look for easy targets.

Motion sensor spotlights work well.

Common Hawthorne.... You will be able to track the invader by their blood trail...

120db is pretty loud. Louder than a rock concert. But.... what frequency/ies does the 120db exist in?

120 dB is very loud. Put a siren inside and outside. They won't be able to stand it.

These guys are good:

Good phone support if you have questions. Good prices. I had motion in my garage but had issues with bugs setting it off. Yeah, a spider can crawl in and set it off believe it or not. So I would seal it real good with RTV. The main issue with motion sensors is false alarms. Your neighbors will ignore it anyway. But it will scare the person away probably.

That level of 125db is right around the sound of a .38 S&W going off near you.

I wouldn't use an alarm, I'd use a 230gr .45acp Speer Golddot.

place motion sensor lights above the garage door. also, remove the emergency rope pull off the garage door opener, it make it easy for thieves to get in. might consider installing a video camera with night vision abilities wired to a DVR.

To quote a country song:

"Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun
And you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son"
